The power conference teams have pretty much figured out if they just play each other in non-conference and then play some patsy low DI buy games at home, they're probably good as long as they finish at .500 in conference and don't totally blow in their conference tournament. I'd like to send the selection committee a big bag of what my dogs just left in the backyard.
The NCAA could solve this problem quite easily if they wanted to. The BCS conferences are now having challenges or shootouts with each other For example, Big 12 vs. Pac 10.

There are 6 power conferences, 25 non-power conferences and enough independent teams to make a 26th. The NCAA could mandate shootouts between the 6 power conferences and the nonpower conferences. Each power conference would schedule 2 year home and homes with 4 nonpower conferences. Big 12 vs. Valley, Summit, C-USA, and Horizon for example. The shootouts could then rotate. Valley vs. Big10 for two yerars, Valley vs. SEC for two years, etc.

This could balance schedules, force power teams to play on the raad, and eliminate alot of the BS that goes on now. This scenario would still leave room for pre=season tourneys.

The power teams would scream about lost revenue, but too bad.
Having the Big 12 pair up against the Horizon or anything like that is just no good. A few upsets here and there but there is just too big of a talent gap.

Look at the two teams "left out." CU and St. Mary's. St. Mary's big draw is out, so no surprise they are left. You and I both watched CU lose twice to WSU this year, and get SPANKED by Ill State. They are not an impressive team. They don't deserve to get in.
Don't disagree with you, but at least the arguments are settled on the basketball floor. I would not expect the power conferences to approach .500 against the smaller conferences, but at least the games would be played and the proof would be there. And it would also have the Valley playing up in their non-con schedules like we did in 2006. The real argument is not between the top teams of the Power Conferences it's between the mediocre middle of the BCS conferences against the top teams of the so called midMajors.

Look at how WSU spanked Seton Hall in the 06 tourney. Seton Hall did not belong in that tourney. Missouri State did. Until the teams actually meet on the floor, I think the smaller conference teams deserve the benefit of the doubt and a shot over teams that wouldn't play them in the regular season.

You could argue Bradley wasn't that impressive of a team in 2006...

        Then look what happened..
        Deuces Valley.
        ... No really, deuces.

Yes, but is it any worse than the #6 and #7 teams in the Big 10? Or USC? Or Arizona?

I won't make an argument for the Big 10 teams, I can't. I just can't. But Arizona and USC? Yes, I think USC and Arizona are better.
