Guys, don't plan a Key West vacation. $299 and up at our Westin is off season prices.

For the budget conscious, there is always the airport area option. Rates are half as much and no parking fees. There is easy access to the MetroLink, which is about $1.25 or so one way. There is a MetroLink station adjoining the Scott Trade Center.

The train ride takes about 20 minutes one way.

One year, we chose the FairField Inn near the airport. The rate was in the 40s for two people. It worked out fine.

It all boils down to whether or not you want to walk ($$$) or take other transportation ($) to the game. I generally stay at the Doubletree in Chesterfield for about $70 per night (advance, prepay) and drive 20 minutes to the game. No big deal. I just can't make a quick trip back to the hotel between games. I would stay close for $140 per night for the convenience, but not for $200+.

There is also the enjoyment of staying where the team is and being able to talk to them after games. Certainly worth some extra dollars. Whether or not it's worth the difference is all dependant on who you are and what your situation is.

I booked at the Westin today for $156 + $15 for parking + 15% taxes = $196.65 per night. There is a $5 extra charge for valet parking. I suppose the obligatory tip should be considered.

To get the $156 rate, call the reservation center and tell the reservationist that you are a WSU fan and you would like the fan rate. Also, you must guarantee a two night rate in case you cancel. ($312.00)

If any of you prefer a downtown property, I suggest you make your reservations soon. I believe rooms in convenient locations to the Scott Trade Center will be sold out soon.

There is a MetroLink station right across the street from the Westin. This advantage persuaded me to choose the Westin.

A couple years ago, I used the valet parking, but realized last year that there is a parking lot across the street south that works fine. Especially if you're like us and seldom ever get in the vehicle again after reaching town. We can walk or Metro-Link close enough to the arena, Schlafly's, Morgan Street Brewery, and the Union Station to take care of everything we need. Time allowing, we might run to St Charles to the Trail's End Brewery or to Lewis & Clarks where we get great food and Trail's End beers.

Now, I just save that Valet's parking cost.

We normally stay at the Westin, or wherever the team is, but went the other direction this year. We are staying at Harrah's where it will cost us just over $79 a night including taxes and no parking fees. We just decided that saving some $120 a night per couple is worth it. We can either drive to the games or to the Metro-Link parking area just a few miles from Harrah's and do just fine.

We do love staying with the team, but this is one time that we opted to save money. Besides, we'll be close to Trail's End Brewery. :yahoo:

                          Go Shox. :posterwu:

The SIU Alumni Association rate for that weekend is $129 a night plus tax. But I think that there is a 2-night minimum. So, you don't have to pay the rack rate. I'd guess that your alumni association might have negotiated some similar type of deal. Also, as someone on SalukiTalk mentioned, Priceline can be your friend in a time like this.

Also, the Casino Queen just opened a big expansion of it's hotel and it's right on the MetroLink. I am not sure what the rate is for it or speak to the quality of the hotel.

Enjoy it, stay someplace different, you'll be in KC next year. LOL. Here's what a person in the Valley offices told me two months ago, "...maybe it's time we reward those loyal Creighton and Shocker Fans who've helped move the tournament to a new level by having it closer to their fanbases for awhile."
