This seems like such a no-brainer.

Marshall says he doesn't think bobble, dribble, dribble, jump, shoot can happen in 2 seconds and has no qualms about telling the world. It's not going to change anything, but it keeps the topic in play.

Sexton plays the good guy and goes along with the official explanation, while he's probably working with the Valley to try to see what can be done to reduce the chance of something like this happening ever again.

As long as Marshall keeps the topic in play, and Sexton is going along with the "official" explanation that puts Sexton in a position to support improved clock-handling. That's the only good thing that can come from this.

It takes Marshall going public to keep the discussion open and Sexton working behind the scenes to get results. This is a great example of teamwork and working together to achieve an objective.

Whether true or not, based on the litany of wrongs visited on us in the last year, the vast majority of Shocker fans think the Valley is out to screw us. I'd really like to have Sullentrop or one of our local crack TV guys to get an interview with Elgin and let him explain the various things that have happened in that time period, starting with Gregg's ejection, the TCU Mountian West screw job, our trip to balmy Cleveland next year, and the time-keeping debacle that was the last twenty seconds of the CU game. I'd like to see this done with a live dissection of the last 1.9 (or is it 2.9) seconds of the game so Elgin can explain exactly how he's done his math.

I realize this wouldn't result in anything, and God knows Elgin doesn't have the sack to do it, but I would certainly tune in.

I'd also like to see the new Zapruder film that was, according to Haertl, taken from underneath the basket and should show when Woodfox touched the ball. My guess is that one of those fat, drunken CU students ate it.

Good point Aargh. I think you might be on target. Now if Gregg gets reprimanded by the league for keeping the topic in play, and Sexton doesn't say anything it highlights my concerns from the earlier post.

They should come out together with a statement, or both should let it die.
However, your input might be exactly the game plan.

If they were truly out to screw us, would they have allowed the time to run out after the ball went out of bounds off Hannah? I believe this is more a case of an incompetent clock operator than a conspiracy.

I often wonder how experienced the staffers at the scorers table are. Do they only do this at the MVC tourney? Are they the usual scorers for SLU or other non-Valley teams that are brought in?

It just seems like there are more problems than usual at the tournament.

On Sports Daily both Bruce and Lutz said that the time keeper was a union guy being that St L is a union town, union building, etc.

So yea, union labor screwed something up ...

That can't possibly be. Unions are what make the world go 'round and can never do wrong.

Kirk Lester told me he recognized the scorekeeper. It was Don Denkinger.

On the coach's show tonight, coach pretty much verified that Sexton is in fact working behind the scenes on the issue. Whether that is lobbying for some kind of formal apology or admission, or for changes in the way the clock operators are chosen, or using referee started clocks, he wasn't able to say.

No, not solely on him, but as our AD, it's his job to make sure we, as a program, don't get screwed over. He's supposed to defend us.

I don't care what Sexton does publicly as long as behind closed doors he and GM are plotting their move to render the rest of the MVC, specifically CU helpless in the ensuing WSU dominance that is to come.

Let's face it. We are never going to get the benefit of the doubt in anything. We are too big of c@cks and people love to hate us. I doubt any of us give a rat's A@@ about that.

What we need to do is keep fighting and clawing, wear our cups and take it like men. And when the time comes, squeeze hard and put your man down, because we all know, they'd do the same to us.

I'm certain that at some point in our country's history that unions served a purpose other than perpetuating power for one political party. Maybe in some instances they still do...?

In years past I have exhibited products at trade shows held in Chicago ( strong corrupt union town) at McCormick Place. I became so frustrated because the union did not want to allow me to roll a table top display into the building, in its case with wheels attached to the case...sort of like a rolling suitcase if you will.

They instead wanted me to wait for 45 minutes by a small office at one end of the exhibition hall waiting for a union laborer to roll it for me. They also wanted to rent me a 4 foot ladder for them to use to attach the magetized strip at the top of the display rather than using the step stool that doubled as a tall chair to sit at eye-level with customers.

The reason for this information is that doing it the Chicago "union" way took me 6 hours to set up a 10x10 booth, and $50 in tips.

The solution to this in following trips has been to take $200-$300 worht of $5 bills and hand them to whatever thug is harrassing me 1 or 2 at a time, do the job myself, and be done with it in 30 minutes.

I wonder if this is what the teams in the MVC who always seem to get the benefit of the doubt have figured out????

Just wondering from over here on my "grassy knoll". ;-)

The principal reasons I decided to greatly reduce my posting on SN are (i) the way sports threads are turned into "political" threads here and (ii) the difference between supporters of WSU sports and supporters of WSU (i.e. academically and athletically). There are probably many fans here who would not object if the academic side of WSU took a big hit as long as athletics was OK.

There are, of course, many people who contribute to both sides of the university and they are, to me, the true fans. Some people love Shocker sports but object to having the state fund the university; since state funds cannot go to athletics (with some minor exceptons), "libertarians" who object to public expenditures for the KBOR institutions are effectively picking athletics over academics. In the long run, this hurts both sides of the university. Some good athletes are attracted to WSU because of strong academic programs. Examples:

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.
