MSU reserve Isaiah Rhine is out with a broken foot.

He played 14 and 9 minutes in our loss and win, respectively. For the season he averaged 10.4 minutes, 1.4 points and 2.4 rebounds.

Additionally he averaged 1.4 FGA, 0.4 FT made, 44.4% FT, and 0.4 TOs. Yes, it appears Mr. Rhine likes numbers that end in .4.

It does feel good to get excited about a shocker win. Honestly, though, I am tired of having my expectations and hopes shattered every year like clockwork.

During the NIT and NCAA years, we went to St Louis, and if I recall, more than once, the top seeds were bounced, opening up the bracket for us and we choked away. We never made it out of the semis.

This seems to be a recurring theme among both basketball and baseball.

This year's going to be different?

At this point, I would rather prepare for the worst, hope for the best and be pleasantly surprised. Because for the past 22 years, I've been expecting miracles and drinking too much!!

Sorry, you're not a true Shocker fan then.

We're gonna murder MSU which will set us up for the upset of the tournament when we take down the hated BJ's! Yes, we can!

We have the talent to beat any team in the MVC on any given night. We do not have the mental maturity to execute at the intensity level required to beat any team in the MVC on any given night.

St. Louis offers a very good opportunity for us to win at least one game and maybe two. If we win the game against Creighton we will have a very good chance for three wins but I think a very low chance of winning the 4th.

So my initial prediction is a record of 1-1.

If we manage to go 2-0, I will predict a final MVC Tourney record of 3-1 and some post-season play somewhere.

If we go 0-1 I will be VERY discouraged and VERY disappointed with our players, coach, and the basketball gods.

Didn't say anything about MSU. That game I expect to win. If we don't win tomorrow, well, I'll just keep it to myself, because ya'll will be feeling exactly the same.

Laugh all you want about this guy, but underneath it all, when you strip away the bravado and machismo, all you have is a simple man, rooting for his team.

This is the time of year that Ellis has his big game. I predict Ellis has 10-15 points as the Shockers win 73-66.

WSU gets the MSU monkey (or bear) off its back and gets a tournament win against them. Murry will bounce back and score in double digits and Kyles will have a good game with 8-10 points.

Royal we have a very inexperienced team with a fragile ego. The media's constantly reminding these guys of their team's lack of success both against Mo. State and in the Conference tournament is bound to have somewhat of a negative effect on their confidence. Add in our performance in the two games played against them this year and I would guess that their confidence is very low. I hope I'm wrong, but my money has to go on Mo. State this time.

WSU is 3 points favorite on several betting sites. Though it doesn't mean much, it shows that the Shox have a better chance.
                            Good luck!

You assume they are paying attention to the media. Even if they are, I'm sure the coaches are donig their job to make sure the psyches and attitudes of the players are where they need to be. I'm not sure I can agree with the fragile ego comment either. The turnaround this season tells me the exact opposite. If these guy's egos were that fragile, they wouldn't be playing (or playing well) for Gregg Marshall.

Add in our performance in the two games played against them this year and I would guess that their confidence is very low.
They know more than we do that their worst performance of the season (independent of the opponent) was at MSU. We played better against them at CKA and if two of their guards hadn't hit a string of 3s (not something you expect or count on in any game) we win fairly easily. Again, I'm sure this is something the coaches do to get the players in the right frame of mind to offset the mental effects of the previous games.

If the blowout at MSU wasn't a result of poor effort and performance on the part of WSU and the game at CKA wasn't what was probably one of MSU's best of the season, I might agree with your assessment.

My point is that if I can rationalize why I don't think the results of the previous two games have to play into the next one, surely the coaches and players can do the same.

Additionally, we are playing for the opportunity to become post-season tournament eligible. MSU can't get to that point and they aren't going to win the MVC tourney.

I also feel we have a coaching edge. Martin has never coached in a D1 conference tournament as the head guy. Marshall's accomplishments in this area are well-documented. He just has to make sure he's still on the bench when the final buzzer sounds!
