You guys are right though. No way did I think we'd be in this position a month ago. That's a good way to look at it.

We just need to get this season over with and carry our second half into the beginning of next year.

Gosh darn it.. and to think I thought we actually had a chance to do something special if we could've avoided Thursday. Effing DRAKE! :-x

Steele, regarding point #4: They have two other seniors (Clemmons & Boyle) on their squad besides Mullins. Are they injured as well? Granted, Mullins is the center of that team but don't think those two will go out without a fight.

          bone,

I guess my main point is the THE senior on that team is Mullins. Those other guys are good, but they are mostly role players (although I hope they don't start playing like more than that Saturday).
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

I'm with you on your reasoning on all points Steele but I don't think I would even concede on point #2. We have, generally, been making progress on the road and improving. The very fact that we have not had success on the road as measured by "W's", I think is actually in our favor. The more losses, the closer we are to a win.

The only 2 real worries are Hare and Dilliard, the freshmen, who are providing SIU with the most points currently. Play good defense on them, and we can win this game.

As Shakespeare said "Men are masters of their own fate" and this is certainly the case for avoiding the play in round. Odds are not in our favor but my gut is telling me it'll be a squeeker regardless of the outcome.

                    Sales pitch

I would think that Marshall actually loves this as a motivational tool -- no doubt he's reminding the guys or has already done so that the whole idea in basketball is to get yourself into must-win games: the more, the better. And most of his players, if not all, have experienced being in post-season playoff and tournament situations either in high school, juco, or both, so they understand what it feels like.

Obviously, the same is true of SIU, but their tank has to be running a lot lower than WSU's is at this point. All the win at Drake signifies is that they played a team that overall may be fading even faster than they are. Maybe the home court will be enough to save them, but if Indiana State could beat these guys in Carbondale there's no doubt the Shockers can, too. It's just a matter of stepping up and doing it.

                      Wichita Eagle poll:

Wichita State needs a win Saturday to finish in the top six in the Missouri Valley and avoid a play-in game at the MVC Tournament. They play at Carbondale, Ill., where WSU hasn’t won since 1998 What’s your take?
The Shockers are on a roll -- win Saturday, and look out Valley. This SIU team is the worst in 10 years, so WSU has a shot. The Shockers aren’t good enough on the road yet. Win or lose, the Valley tourney is the main goal.

Rule number one in gambling is "always bet the streak to continue." The Salukis will win a close game. probably in the last minute or two.

Rule #1 in poker is you gotta know when to hold-em---know when to fold-em--blah blah blah, etc. However, these young-gun Shocks have got to learn how to hang tough and win on the cold and lonely road. To go where we want to go in the future, it would be nice for us to rise above the obstacles that have haunted us in the past and reach within deep and find a way to start triumping over them starting tonight.

Today's line in the paper picks SIU over us by 3-1/2. Thus, it comes down to who wants it the most and who can execute their will to win. We know SIU is tough at home and wants to win on Senior night. These Shockers have become more tough-minded as of late. Now we just have to learn to apply that tenacity we have at 'home sweet home' and apply it on the road where the stakes become inhospitable, earsplitting, turbulent and manical baby.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
