  • Pattern of Non-Success

Hannah's 8 biggest scoring games where he led the Shox in scoring:

    Siena 72-70 W 19 points
    MI St 57-65 L 19 points
    Tx Tech 69-72 L 24 points
    @Creighton 56-68 L 17 points
    @ N. Iowa 54-78 L 14 points
    @ Drake 69-74 L 22 points
    N. Iowa 69-61 W 14 points
    @ Ill St 59-74 L 21 points

2-6 in these games and 11-8 in other games. Almost half of our losses fall under the above category. However, I'm not blaming Hannah. Just the opposite.

I believe that when no one else,(or the team), or only one other player steps up, Hannah takes it upon himself to do whatever he can. I haven't looked, but I would guess Hannah's assists are low and his turnovers high in these games. Probably from trying to get others involved and forcing the issue....trying not to take all the shots.

Look at the two wins above. Siena was a very early season game for a young and inexperienced Shocker team and Hannah, as a Junior, took on the scoring load. The UNI home game: 14 points is the least number of points in the above games and I think everyone would agree this was a TEAM win, not because Hannah lead us in scoring.

Now consider the Shox other 11 wins. We play better team ball, other players step up, and Hannah's scoring goes into the background. He probably could have led us in scoring in some of those games, but that wasn't his job. The key to success: for the TEAM to step up, play hard, work continually, and play with confidence.

A number of people on here have ragged on Hannah and his PG abilities. Yes, he probably is just an average PG, but he has also stepped up a number of times when no else has. To try and do what ever he can to help the team. He's #1 on Prouty, #3 on im4wsu's +/-, and #1 when you combine to the two ratings.

GO SHOX!! GO TEAM!! :wsu_posters:  :wsu_posters: :yahoo:

I'm pretty much in agreement with that. Hannah's role in JuCo was to do whatever was needed to win. He was often switched from PG to SG when perimeter points were needed.

Hannah would be a much better PG if he was playing with a more experienced and consistent team.

Hannah makes mistakes (over-penetrating in transition comes to mind), but most are typical of first-year D1 players. Hannah's weaknesses are his size and the fact that he can be beat on penetration on D. Sorry, but it is what it is.

I don't doubt that Hannah was the best option at point this year based on the fact WSU needed something other than a Fr at PG this year. I think Hannah does a decent job at PG, but WSU needs 3 guys at the top of their game to win. When Hannah has to take over a scoring role to be one of those 3, it just means that some other players aren't on their games and Hannah recognizes that someone has to score.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

For his size and D1 experience, the dude gets a lot done. Consider where we would be without him.

You could also say that he is much less affected by road games. Maybe he steps it up when others can't. Only one of the games was at home.

I think it hurts when he tries to be the man. Much much better when he is looking to distribute and shoot when in happens in the flow.

I think you will find that in any of the games where Hannah was "trying to be the man" the defense was locking the Shockers offense up and preventing the flow of the offense resulting in Hannah having to be the man. We do not have many options when teams get in our faces and fouls are not called.

Despite his flaws, I struggle to know who has better point guard than Clevin since Cal Bruton (1976).

Fridge Holman. Would have LOVED to have had that guy for more than one year. I think he would have done very well in HCGM's offense.

Thank goodness we have Clevin. He is a fine PG, but he could easily be replaced. Just not by anyone on this year's team.

Clevin is better than Craig Steven, Carl Lemon, and maybe CC McFall.
