  • THAT GUY?

I would have to say the most annoying thing at any sporting event is the fan that knows everything about the fricken game and flaps his gums the entire time. Hell I can deal with foul language and crazy drunks but I am having a tough time dealing with THAT GUY. How many of you have one of these guys in your section? I know this is off topic but if you are THAT guy for the love of god please save yourself.

Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, and Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time.

While we are talking about things that irk you at games how about the fact we never get a replay on the scoreboard on a controversial call? Is that some sort of sportsmanship mandate from the NCAA or just the replay dude trying to be politically correct? Anybody know?

Also, and it's been discussed before, the people who leave in the final minutes before the game is over or even decided. We had a 5 point lead over the #1 team in the valley and people were heading towards the exits.

The first year of CKA they did show a replay of a controversial call. The crowd went nuts and that was the last time they did it.

In my section, we keep it pretty simple.

If the Shocks score, we cheer.

If the opponent scores, we groan.

I saw my first game in 1963 and it was common then.

                      It will never change.

I sit next to a KBCA hall-of-fame coach and we banter about "basketball stuff" all the time during the game. Maybe we are "those guys"?

Jim Shaus did not want to "show the refs up". The one controversial play that was shown (RS mentions it above) was met with some strong words from Mr. Shaus. The policy continues with Eric Sexton. I'm not sure if it's an NCAA thing or not.
"If you're going to do it, you're going to do it right," athletic director Jim Schaus said. "If we're going to put 'Wichita State' across our chest, then every team is going to matter."

I know this is probably a non factor but If I were a ref and I knew the crowd could get another look at each call I'd be a lot more careful to make the right call. They do it in the pro game (replay) and I'm sure they do it at most other venues I wonder if we're doing ourselves a disservice. Just a thought. By the way, I hope I'm not looked upon as that guy in our section, this post has me paranoid about it now.
