I agree. He, like the rest of the team, was playing extremely hard and aggressive. His defense was the best I've seen from him and the look on his face as he ran the floor made it obvious that he was going as hard as he possibly could.

He was excellent in limited minutes yesterday... grabbing loose balls, altering shots in the paint, running up and down the court with a purpose and nailing an open 3 without a second thought. My seats are close to the floor and I agree that he had a look in his eye yesterday unlike what I've seen from him thus far. I'm buying a lot of stock in GS.

Agree on all counts. As I stated in another thread, when Garrett got his 3rd foul early in the second half, the camera locked on his face for several seconds. In one sense he looked like he wanted to cry, but his eyes also showed determination. I expect you will see definite improvement in his game going forward.

There is no doubt that GS will meet our expectations as long as our expectations are grounded in reality. He's a smart, determined kid.

Garrett needs to show a lot more improvement than what he has shown to date. Please watch a game from the beginning of the season and then a later game. He's still making the same bad moves, ...is still too slow to react on defense or offense, doesn't effectively do anything while attempting to hedge on defense, etc...... In what areas has he improved?

Most individual improvement happens between seasons, not during them. I don't know when you can expect some intelligence improvement, probably never.

Stutz had 3 rebounds, 2 blocked shots, a three pointer, and an assist in only 9 minutes. Over the off season he will improve his strength and quickness. He should be something special by his Junior or Senior year.

                  Listen up folks.

18 months ago Garrett didn't even know if he was going to college, period.

Much less play basketball. Much less play D1 basketball.

Much less start his 2nd game of D1 basketball at a high major school.

There is a lot of work to do. But this is a kid with a lot of basketball talent, who is not at all used to being 7 feet tall. He is sharp as hell and a tireless worker who knows how to set goals and to reach them. He has a coach, a staff and a family that offer a support group unlike any other.

He will succeed and he will do it in a large way. And I will be there to take it all in secure in the knowledge that it was always going to happen.

Were you even at the game yesterday, or watching on TV? If you were at the game, it is clear that what you are saying is just plain wrong.

That kid has learned in just a few short weeks to keep his eye on his man and to also watch the play develop at the same time. At the beginning of the season he had his blinders on due to over-concentrating on his man without having awareness of the developing attack .. that was clearly not the case last night as he was getting excellent stops last night that he would have missed early in the season.

This guy IS growing every game.

I have played and watched one hell of a lot of basketball in my life and I don't have any doubt that Stutz will be an excellent player JUDGING BY THE IMPROVEMENT HE IS ALREADY MAKING INCLUDING YESTERDAY'S GAME! "all" you must have your tube tuned to the wrong station.

Been there, done that, also, Sir.

I watch with an experienced post position eye, both in person at the games and often on video tapes of the game. Garrett's skills and lack of certain skills were observed by many a D1 & Dll coach. There are definate reasons Garrett was chased by mid-major colleges. He would be taken as a project at any mid-major college or above.

He is here and we're happy to have him, if he can show that he can play at the Dl level. Time will tell, and in a few months, he will have exhausted a quarter of his D1 career.

I believe that HCGM sees a lot of things that I do, as his playing time has diminished in the last few games. The team seems to work together better with Durley on the floor, and since defense & scoring are imperative in winning, the coach has made the right decision to let him improve in practice rather than on the floor during gametime.

This is the first I've heard that. Evidently I'm unaware of the source of that information.

As I recall, most of the schools recruiting Stutz were BCS. KSU offered. Nebraska offered. The final choice was between Kentucky and WSU.

You must be comparing Stutz to players who exhaust more than 1/4 of their D1 career in one year. The guys who jump to the NBA early.

I believe that HCGM sees a lot of things that I do, as his playing time has diminished in the last few games.
PT might be attributable to maybe Durley is finally buying in, putting out some effort, and improving his own game.

The team seems to work together better with Durley on the floor
Durley showed sign of actually doing what he's supposed to do in the offensive schemes against CU. Earlier in the year, the offense was dormant with Durley because he'd make his first move and then just wander around. Stutz was at least trying to get to his next spots in the sets.

defense & scoring are imperative in winning
The D played by Stutz this year is way better than the D played by Durley last year.

I'm not blind. I realize Stutz plays in slow-motion. There are times when you can see the wheels turning. Then you see the light come on and shortly after that Stutz moves. That will improve with time, repetitions of the movements, and the moves becoming instinctive, rather than an evaluation and decision-making process.

Casual observers won't see much improvement in Stutz until he adds about 20 - 25 pounds and has experience from hundreds, if not thousands, of repetitions of situations. That's not this year.

Other observers see mistakes in positioning and court awareness and look for progress in those areas. Those are there, but Valley teams have recognized Stutz can be pushed around and try to prevent him from getting to where he wants to go.

Stutz has shown progress in recognizing what he's supposed to be doing. If he comes back next year 10 or 15 pounds stronger, he will look like a different player. Stutz has lost weight since the season started and that's hampered his "apparent" progress.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Stutz's playing time yesterday was hampered by his foul problems. Picked up 2 quick fouls in the first half and therefore spent most of it on the bench. This allowed Durley to get into the game and he made the most of his time. Stutz picked up his 3rd foul about a minute into the 2nd half and was immediatly pulled. While he didn't get much PT, he caused a lot of problems for CU inside while he was in there. He set the tone early that CU was not going to have an easy time of it on the blocks. JT came in and kept the pressure up. Since JT was doing so well, Stutz satyed on the bench. Nothing wrong with that, but to say Stutz didn't play well is not accurate. Had Stutz not picked up those fouls, I think he would have had a very good game.
