  • WSU vs. CU - Pre-game thread

CU has a team 3-pt. average of around 38% and does a lot of damage from 3 guards who are lights out on 3-pt shots. WSU has to play man D and may not be able to switch D's effectively, which has been a weapon for the Shox.

CU is likely to play some zone to pack the inside and challenge WSU to hit some 3's. I'm not familiar with Altman's tendencies on D.

With WSU playing man and CU playing zone, that should favor WSU on the boards, which is playing to one of WSU's strengths.

I'm not convinced that CU's inside players are better than WSU's. I'm not convinced that WSU's perimeter D can stop CU's outside game. WSU doesn't seem to have a lock-down defender right now. Stopping CU's outside game requires 3 lock-down defenders.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

As far as 3's go, Woodfox is going to be far and away our major concern. He's shooting 55% from out there, and has made at least 3 treys in all CU's games but 4. The other two guards, Stinnett and Witter aren't THAT good from 3.

Stinnett is actually doing badly, only 26%, but he's 6-3, longer two-point jumpers and drives must account for most of his points.

Witter is pretty good at 40%, but doesn't score as much as the other two.

Kaleb Korver (jeez those K-names are annoying now) is also good from 3, he's right at 50%, but only averaging 5.6ppg.

Hopefully Woodfox will just be "off", he scored 24 and 26 points in his last two games, so maybe he's due for a nice 10 point outing?

We need at least a split from Creighton this Season. Can you imagine the 'shot of confidence' for our young team if we could win this early road game? Here goes!!!!!!! Graham drains a 3 right down the hatch at the buzzer.

Went to St Lewy(LA) by Omaha (Shox)----65

New Year's Wish: Shox with the ball, on top by 8, 2 seconds to go. I think I could breathe then. I don't think my heart could withstand a buzzer beater (either way).

I hope he does start hitting some 3's, but lately he hasn't even been close. Of course, neither has anyone else except Reggie.

FSF, I like you, but really, a win at their place?!? When was the last time we won at their joint? I might have been in gradeschool the last time it happened. Predict with your brain, not your heart.

The last time we won in Omaha was 1991, no joke.

Anyways my pregame breakdown is up. http://www.shockersports.blogspot.com/

On this one I'm going to go with my heart and predict a close game.

KC Shox--you make a valid point. However, when was the last time I predicted for the Shocks to lose a specific game? Never. When will be the first time I predict them to lose a specific game? Never. Let's hope the Shockers have their best game of the Season thus far which would be enough to jump start this young team into a surprise ending in the Valley this year.

We will win this game if we shhot free throws well.

We should easily out rebound them and I think our perimeter defense will be solid because we have alot of fresh bodies to throw at them. I hope we are as aggressive against CU as we were in the second half of the NAU game.

Shox21---"This is what we need---another Shocker Matty B. type deep 3 at the buzzer! If would be healthy for the black and gold blood that runs through our veins.

1979 Shocker---Earlier this Season, Hatch seemed to have a smooth release. Lately, it almost appears he has been short-arming it as though he is trying to guide it. However, if Hatch can get those entry passes into our bigs, I think we could exploit the jays in the paint.

Team with an inside game - 75
Team that struggles inside - 67

Which team will the Shockers bring?

Decent analogy, but realistic fans usually don't have to worry about a letdown. It's a nice preventative measure for stress.
