  • Friday night game?

    Why?
What college basketball team plays a friday night game?

This is ridiculous. I realize Gardner Webb plays at KSU on Sunday, but what is wrong with a Thursday night game?

The same day there is an article about the young great City League talent we have in Wichita, and none of our coaches will be there to watch them play. I bet KU, and KSU will have their assistants watching the kids play.

Also it is always good to give tickets to the high school players so they can attend the games in person. Obviously if WSU plays a Friday night game this cannot happen.

I do not even want to get into the thinking of scheduling a home game on New Year's Eve.

I will hang up and listen.

From everything we've heard, scheduling is one of if not the biggest headaches for coaches. The only way you can legitimately criticize the choice of day is if you know all the factors that went into it. What teams were being considered? What were their schedules like?

OOC scheduling has always produced games on different days than what we are used to seeing during league games.

It's one game out of 30. You're makinig it out to be a much bigger deal than it is. And there are 49 D1 games scheduled for New Year's Eve. Ours is a conference game that is out of our control.

And as for getting out to see recruits, they will play 20-ish games this year, giving plenty of opportunities to observe. It's not like coaches go to every single game of players they recruit. That's unreasonable, even for local players. I also recall a few times under Turgeon that one of his assistants like Rohn or Prileau wouldn't be at a game because he was out recruiting. Besides, we can make up for it on one of the six combined Tuesday nights that KU and KSU play conference games.

      Revelations

      Quoth the mighty lawmaker:

Gee, law, Marshall ought to hire you next time he has an opening. Sounds like you could teach him and his staff a lot about scheduling, because I'm sure they didn't know any of those revelations you just offered.

Royal, your points are, as usual, very fair and right on. I did, however, think the tone a bit hostile...maybe that's just me. I thought both of you make legitimate comment worthy of discussion.

Travel and class schedules also play an important part in teams traveling from either coast, such as GW. Playing Thursday night might have meant missing more class time.

The New Year's Eve game is definitely not a WSU decision, all ten Valley teams play that day...WSU is the only evening game. My preference would be to play on New Year's Day evening instead, which would mean a Thursday/Saturday schedule instead of Wednesday/Saturday, but maybe I would stand alone in that preference.

I'm certain that a Thursday night game vs GW would draw slightly better than Friday night, but the revenue difference is probably de minimis.

As far as Royal's 'hostile tone'. He's probably as tired as the rest of us reading lawmaker's trolls on here.

And let it be pointed out that Baylor has games on 12/31/08 and 1/2/09 - New Years Eve and a Friday.

Make sure you also visit the forums for the following schools and get their input on Firday night games since they also scheduled them... That's not the complete list, just some of the "name" schools, there's about 140 total games on a Friday night from Dec. - Feb. Our 1 game makes up 0.7% of the total Friday night games.

He sets'em up, we knock'em down.

You would think he would actually do some research to see if Baylor has a Friday night game before starting a thread like this... It would almost be like if WSU had a player shoot another player, then we started talking crap on Baylor when that happened to them.

Baylor gets Waco guys to come to their school. WSU does not.

Name the last WSU basketball team to sign a decent city league player? HA Tony Jones from North? HA Probably Darren Williams--

Like I have said over 50 times on this board, WSU will not completely turn around their program until they keep their players at home.

                        This is dumb
2 Friday games, one friday night game all season. Not that big of a deal.

Playing tonight - Friday - probably has more to do with having an opportunity of getting a game in before finals week, as well as working around the travel schedule of the opposing team.

Stay on topic. Sorry, that wasn't the subject. If you want to talk about that start another thread. This thread should be titled..."Lawmaker with Foot in Mouth". Maybe the real question is why the best Baylor team in the last 40 years couldn't get past the 2nd round of the NCAA's.
