I suspect his minutes will increase, probably sooner than later.

Hopefully Garrett will look at JT's inconsistency as motivation and an opportunity to earn some additional minutes.
If JT doesn't end up panning out in the end, it'll be shame. I think the Centenary game will be a good indication of the future for him. If he steps up, it's probably a good bet he'll continue starting and getting some minutes. If he performs poorly (offensively or defensively) I would suspect his starting position ends up being in jeapardy with G-Town and other major opponents coming up.
Monday will be interesting in a lot of ways. I look for us to rebound some and play better. Perhaps that's more optimism than realism speaking, but I'm a 'glass half full' kind of guy by nature anyway in case you hadn't already noticed.

I'm surprised that JT doesn't play as hard in games as he must in practice (very strange phenomenon). Given what I'm reading here, I'm surprised any coach would even let him in the game, much less start. I'll leave JT's fate to HCGM and go with his judgement. Quite frankly, my thinking was more along the lines that Aaron STILL needs to redshirt (and I hope I'm wrong).
Stutz will continue to get more and more minutes, but with Mantas still a physical question mark, now and maybe later in the season, we need JT and/or Aaron to mature more quickly. I can't image that HCGM would have been starting JT if he was a disruptive force to the team.

I'm not sure if it is lack of effort or just lack of recognizing a situation and reacting to it - actually DOING SOMETHING like cutting off the lane when somebody drives or seeing man and ball and knowing where both are at all times - then making a decision to do something. Maybe he just has trouble figuring it all out...whatever it is...it has to improve.

Things like when playing man to man defense - you always have to put yourself in a position where you can see your man and the ball. In the last game, I saw JT numerous times just following his man and he had no idea somebody was either getting ready to shoot the ball or drive the lane.
A few times, he was in position to see his man and the ball, and I swear, he was looking directly at a man driving the lane (that had just beat his own man), and JT did not step in to draw the charge or get into position to stop the ball. If JT comes over to stop the ball, then another player is supposed rotate over to help cover JT's man - but the ball never got stopped. We got beat off the dribble into the lane - then nobody (JT on this occassion) came over to stop the ball.
I do not want to give up on JT either, and I don't think anyone else wants to; he just does not seem to recognize what he is supposed to do in a lot of defensive situations. I'm sure the coaches work with them on this, and they are likely more frustrated than anyone else. For now, I would like to see JT try to step in and try to draw charges on the opposition EVERY chance he gets. I think that would show something positive.

I remember 3 consecutive possessions by UMKC where they had a guy driving the lane and JT was the only guy between them and the hoop. All 3 times JT wasn't a factor and looked like he was trying to get out of the way to get a chance at a block from the back - after the player was past him. That didn't work.
That was when WSU had a nice lead and went into their 9-minute scoring drought. UMKC got a lot of confidence by getting a a 6-0 run on 3 possessions by simply driving to the hoop against Durley.
To my thinking, that was prety much the turning point in the game. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I don't have a probem with JT not playing D....just as long he was a scoring machine. If he was averaging 19+ points per game, I can tolerate his lack of defensive intensity, since he is not, this kid is killing the team more by giving up easy baskets than he is helping it with his scoring. Sit his ass until he gets his mind right.

I hate to break it to you guys but your blaming only a guy who was on the bench for one heck of a lot of the game. Several others were in the game for longer and during defensive breakdowns. JT has defensive problems but so do many of the others. I don't hear a lot of people climbing on the others. Some people have just wanted this guy's a** from the beginning and will not be happy until he is ran out of town. Big mistake. He can and will play defense and realize his potential. Get off his butt!

Those are the only four with more time than JT. I saw Graham get beat off the dribble a few times. Nobody is saying there were no other defensive problems - but JT did have more than his share - and it has been going on for his whole career. We would all love for JT to succeed. Now, who is the only person that has the ability to do something about it?

Thinking back, I believe that Dane Brummage, or whatever his name is, took Hatch to the hole twice. Also, some big slow white kid (Diddle? Biddle?) took Clevin Hannah to the rim 3 times. Maybe somebody who has seen the film could confirm this, but those 5 drives resulted in 4 buckets, I think.

JT is our starting center (at least for now) and he deserves the greater quantity of criticism.
