  • Although late in posting, my observations from the SW corner.

Highlight was Murry absolutely baiting the ESU guard into the pass he intercepted and took to the hole at the north end. He's going to be FUN to watch.

Graham, echo in here, was a man last night. There is always room for a solid, heady player, even if that room is just a specific role.

Free throws not only missed, but nearly all of the misses had no chance whatsoever. There is no way that it was representative of guys who had avoided running by hitting 75% as a unit in practice. Unless maybe the game didn't have them exhausted enough to make free throws.

Hannah...certainly knows how to get himself a pretty clean look at the basket...has a tremendous first step, even if he isn't fast, he gets open enough, at least against ESU (actually looked like they played in-your-face defense often).

Three point shooting--I didn't see a lot of bad shot selection, nor did we seem to be looking for the three. Several came on nice kick-out passes.

Stutz will in time learn not to dribble inside...hope it's sooner rather than later. He could certainly use a RS year for strength purposes (rebounding), but that is a luxury we might not be able to afford.

Coach has some decisions to make concerning redshirts. I'd hate to see Kyles play less than 5 per game and burn a shirt for that. If the starters plus Griskenas, Ellis and Chamberlain stay healthy, then it is Hatch or Kyles. Hatch doesn't have a shirt to use, does he?

Overall, great to see the Shox and definitely worth the 2 hour drive from Great Bend.

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

    • I don't think Coach plans on redshirting anybody, unless he is going to redshirt a walk-on.

      • I also think that is his plan, but I agree, somebody should redshirt. One could make a case for Kyles, Ellis, or Stutz. No way there are enough minutes for everybody to play and develop.

        • Not everyone wants to spend 5 years going to college when you can graduate in 4 normally.

The way injuries have gone since the beginning of the year, I wouldn't redshirt anybody.

          • How many players can a team redshirt? Can a team have no more than 15 players total -- active or redshirt?

            • You can RS as many as you want. You can dress no more than 15 for any one game.

              • On the coaches show he said the staff had talked about it, but said they haven't talked with any of the players. He mention Mason Felter as a possible redshirt but said it would depend on Griskenas and Ellis. He said it would also depend on whether any player wanted to redshirt.

Yeah, I get the feeling you can't force anyone to redshirt. You can try to get them to see the logic in it, and the benefit for them, but that ultimately it's up to them. I remember HCGM talking about a former Winthrop player of his that he wanted to redshirt, but the player didn't want to and didn't. I don't remember who it was though.

                        • Hawk had Cooz-like stats at St. Bonny's. Similar numbers for steals and blocks. Pretty much had decent stats across all categories. He certainly seems capable of playing some D.

Marshall has seen Valley play. Most teams have a couple of guys who will light you up from 3 if they're open. Maybe Hawk didn't see that in the A10.

I'm not confident Hawk will be the shut-down defender that Cooz was. That's a tough act to follow. I think I know what Hawk will be working on between now and Sunday. His weaknesses will be pretty obvious when he watches the DVD's of the guys he was supposed to be guarding.

                          I'm not worried.

                          • I wanted to see Hawk more aggressive on offense. It's been said that he probably doesn't play D like Cooz but should be better offensively. I believe he had a layup and the rest were jump shots from the outside.

                              • On a lighter note did anyone else notice Ramon when he was guarding the man inbounding the ball for ESU. It was a total stare down contest.

I think Ramon has a little Jamar Howard in him, but no one else on the court seems to enjoy playing as much as he does.
