According to Mrs. Marshall in her interview with SPLURGE! magazine a few months back, the “hardest thing we had to deal with was the two or three weeks during the season after Odom resigned. People were calling and asking us if we were leaving,” and I said “Believe me, the last thing I want to do is pack up all of this junk and move again. Perception was different than the reality and there was no interest at all (in the South Carolina job).”

Katz apparently thinks that South Carolina (because it is in a BCS conference) would have been Marshall's dream job and that Gregg is kicking himself for leaving (especially for a non-BCS school and because of the season we had last year). Unfortunately, we did not do ourselves proud last year (even though there were extenuating circumstances). If I am not mistaken, there were rumors of Odom's retirement BEFORE Gregg took the WSU job, even though Odom's contract had just been extended for two years. If Gregg really WANTED the SC job, all he had to do was wait another year or two at a school where he was King. Katz just thinks that ANY BCS school is better than a good or potentially good non-BCS school.

It's still amazing to me how far Wichita State has fallen since Mark Turgeon left.
Take the comment for what it's worth. Regardless of who took over the reigns or when the decline actually started, last year we achieved the same conference win total as the original rebuilding year when we were grappling on the edge of the abyss. "The Program" under solid leadership should NEVER be one win away from a program that continually contemplates the idea of moving to D2 (Evansville). The venerable powerhouse that is the Purple Pimps even hammered us by 8 pts on their home court.

The bottom line is this, two years removed from a Sweet Sixteen, you don't expect to be sniffing the bottom of the barrel. I don't care if you are playing walkons (like Drake). Sure we lost a key player, boo hoo...

Also, to the comments about Turdge being groomed by the best: That is definitely true. The Turdge was accused of making ill-timed line changes, taking a player out too soon, too late, reacting instead of dictating, etc. etc. etc.. But the proof is in the pudding, he did a remarkable job while he was here and I don't think it is prudent to attribute it to his massive IQ or overwhelming confidence. He put together a plan to win every year and did it.

It certainly isn't by me... but that is no secret.. :)

Underdog roles are for losers that have nothing left but hope... KU is never an underdog in the Big 12, Wichita State should NEVER be an underdog to D2'esque programs like those you find in the MVC.

I wouldn't use shitty predictions as bulletin board material. That just gives players a chance to make excuses when things get tough. These players need to understand that they play for the best program in the Valley (by far) and they are EXPECTED to win every night they lace 'em up. Losing is not just a disappointment to themselves but to the 100's of thousands of Shocker Fans in America.

It's time to win, and it's time to win now!

We are not underdogs, we are Shockers,.. WE ARE #@*&#$ WINNERS!!!

Yeah Mark put the plan together to win every year EXCEPT the last one. Mark seemed like a different person to me that last season. I still think Mark knew he was leaving before that season even began.

You are absolutely right. Mark WANTED to leave the year he dragged his ass up to the mic and said, in a tone that seemed more directed at himself than the listening audience, "I'm Staying". When he was sitting on the edge of his chair just prior to coming onstage he look more devastated than any man I have ever seen. You would think he had just lost his children, his wife, and his job. He definitely wanted to leave after the S16 and you know that Roy-boy scolded his socks off for not doing it...

Because Turdge could not look past himself for the people and program that supported him during his "blossoming", he will forever be THE TURDGE to me!

Andy Katz is just plain mean!!!

With the new college basketball season set to tip off, Andy Katz highlights 10 things to watch, including games to keep an eye on, surprise teams and hidden gems.

                3. Old Spice Classic semifinals and finals, Orlando, Nov. 28 and Nov. 30: A lineup consisting of Michigan State, Gonzaga, Georgetown, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Maryland, Siena and Wichita State (the only team in this field that won't get a sniff of the postseason) should provide big-time games on the nights of the semifinals and finals. At least four of these teams could meet in late March.

If I was a betting man, I don't think I'd bet against his statement.

I do agree that he really has taken the time to stomp his feet all over us in the mud.

Again, Katz is just a guy who wants to be popular and be in the 'in' crowd. He's the Paris Hilton of the college basketball analytical world. He wants to be 'sooo hot'. When we were 'hot', he was all over us. When we're not, he finds a new crush.

He was extremely supportive of the Shockers during our Sweet 16 season and when we broke into the top 10 the following year. We really got some tremendous PR from him during that time.

Don't have anything one way or the other to back this up, but usually when someone does such an about face as this, there is a reason.

Perhaps he is just a sarcastic twit or perhaps he felt he was made to look foolish for supporting us after we started into our nose dive and now he is badmouthing us every chance he gets.

I think Katz might be correct in his assessment, however, it is just one more example of how sports journalism, and journalism in general, has degenerated to the lowest common denominator.

These guys get paid to make people read their columns. If people don't read, then their won't be money from advertisers. The easiest (laziest) way to get people to read/watch is to take extreme positions or to try and seem "cutting edge" like I'm sure Katz thought he was doing with his statement. Unfortunately, by saying something like "the only team that won't get a sniff at the postseason" he sounds more like a hack, blogger as opposed to a so-called "professional sports journalist."

...and many of us have now done just that. It's just like any business you don't care for--not patronizing it is probably the only thing that can be done unfortunately other than hope the Shox have printed it off and posted it in the locker room for incentive.

You remember my thread a while back "SHOX--PUSHOVERS????" Same deal.
