I really would not be all that surprised if AJ ends up being on the first team all MVC team.Follow me on twitter: https://twitter.com/Shox_KCfan

I read a while back that he wanted to be closer to his mom...he's from Edmonton, Oklahoma. The kid was a pretty dang good player in his last year w/ the Bonnies, he averaged 12 ppg and 14 ppg during conference play. It had nothing to do w/ playing time as he was arguably the best player on their team. I'm predicting Hawkins will be MVC newcomer of the year. He has a high ceiling...hopefully he hits it as a Shocker.

You gotta wonder after watching him play just why any coach in his right mind would let the situation get to the point where a player of his caliber transfers. Yeah, I know it happened here previously too. But still, you gotta wonder.
Anyway you cut it, our gain and the Friars loss.

Yes, I went ahead and looked it up and the head coach (that recruited him) was fired and AJ asked for his release. I believe he started many, if not most, games his freshman year as well.
edit: I found this on a St Bonnie school site
As A Sophomore (2006-07)
Started all but one game and emerged as a bona fide leader ... averaged 12.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game ... came on strong in Atlantic 10 play with a team-high scoring average of 14.1 points per game in conference action ... scored in double figures each of the last eight games of the season ... recorded two double-doubles on the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds against Richmond (Jan. 10) and with a career-high 29 points and 12 rebounds in a win at Duquesne (Feb. 24) ... scored 20 or more points five times: vs. Ohio (25), vs. Duquesne (20), at Temple (23), vs. Dayton (24) and at Duquesne (29) ... led the Bonnies in scoring nine times: 25 points vs. Ohio (Dec. 6), 14 points at Albany (Dec. 16), 12 points at George Washington (Jan. 13), 23 points at Temple (Feb. 7), 24 points vs. Dayton (Dec. 10), 12 points at Massachusetts (Feb. 21), 29 points at Duquesne (Feb. 24), 17 vs. Fordham (Feb. 28) and 13 points at Charlotte (March 3) ... set career highs in field goals (12) and attempts (17) in the game with Ohio ... led St. Bonaventure in rebounding six times ... led the Bonnies in steals with 28 ... went 13-16 at the line in win at Duquesne ... averaged 30.4 minutes per night.
As A Freshman (2005-06)
Brought a spark to the Bonnies with his athleticism and hustle ... was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week twice (Nov. 14-20 and Dec. 4-10) ... played in all 27 games and earned 10 starts ... averaged 6.3 points per game, a figure that ranked fifth best among all Atlantic 10 Conference freshmen ... averaged 2.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 0.6 steals per game ... shot 45 percent (73-160) from the field ... scored in double figures four times ... scored a season-high 19 points in win over Youngstown State on Dec. 10 at the Reilly Center ... scored nine points and a season-high seven rebounds in win over St. Francis ... in his first collegiate game, scored 12 points in a win over Robert Morris ... scored eight points and handed out four assists against West Virginia ... scored 13 points in win over Central Connecticut State ... scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds Feb. 9 against Fordham ... scored nine points in road win over Duquesne Feb. 25 ... had six games with three assists or more ... showed the potential to become an above-average defensive player.

Originally posted by Snapshot9It is really too bad that AJ couldn't have played with Matt and PJ. AJ and PJ on the same line would have really been good, I think.
I would want AJ on the wing (or 3), a point guard, shooting guard, power forward (JT) and a big nasty center (Orupke -still dreaming). To me that leaves very little room for PJ. Now, if PJ had a consistent outside shot that would be really nice because he could be the shooting guard and then really shine on the defensive end.
I wonder if AJ is a legit 6'5"? I know that there were rumors that PJ was actually more like 6'3.5". If true, an inch and a half could be a monster improvement and appears to be so when AJ goes for a dunk. It could be that his vertical is just that much better than PJ's but I think it might be his height. I know his arms couldn't be proportionately that much longer. PJ was quite "long-armed".
P.S.
I'm starting to develop a moderate man-crush on AJ. Watch out!
