Doc, I was there and have a moment now to add something to the Bill Self story. Basically, he and his family are invited to Lawrence - in June sometime - without the team.

Paraphrasing - Bill said, "I wouldn't play you when you were at Winthrop and I certainly won't do it now that you're at Wichita State."

Another quip from the coach - "You have to re-pay the price of success every season. Nothing is handed to you because you have one good season."

And another - "A day where you don't recruit is like a man who forgets to shave for a day. It makes you look like a bum".

I was trying to remember paragraph 3. Thanks for reminding me. A perfect quote from Gregg that tells you all you need to know about this man.

You all forgot to add that Matty B. has been baby sitting for Marshall.

It is impossible to listen to this man speak and not be excited about what is ahead.

He talked about the great memories we have inside this building but followed that up with that he wanted everyone to know that working together, the greatest memories are ahead of us when we work together.

You can read into that whatever you want to but I took it like this: "I've heard the stories and I love the passion but you haven't seen anything yet.

Together (Coaches, players, Admin, boosters, fans) we can and will accomplish not anything, but everything.

When discussing the schedule I took it as almost a challenge when he mentioned the road games and specifically UMKC. I beleive he expects several thousand black and gold clad WSU fans at that game.

I hope he doesn't get too down when only 5,000 show up for Midnight Madness and he thinks to himself, volleyball got more than that. What gives.

I seem to recall that the volleyball match with KSU was an actual game... honestly, I don't think the coach gives a harry rats behind about attendance at Early Evening Mid-Week Madness.

I think he also mentioned Cheese Johnson as an Alum that he had met.

I am sure that was in regard to Noel

So my question for you all is....

What did the man have for breakfast? Bacon, eggs? Crepes? Toaster Struedel?

                  j/p

                  Thanks for the reporting.

"Thursday morning, he put his charm and sense of humor on display for 540 fans at WSU's Distinguished Alumni speaker series in the Koch Arena practice gym."

"Former WSU coach Mark Turgeon spoke last August to the same group, and drew 350 people."

MT built this up. No one could be doing a better job following it.

The article should be at least somewhat encouraging for those worried about Shocker Madness attendance.

Yes, it should be exciting to know that the defense will be switched up depending on the actual game situation - no more blind stubbornness. That alone should add 1,000 to the Shocker Madness attendance.
