Thank the lord we don't! It would be absolutely miserable if they were.

I thought that Matt was referring to the season after next , but I might be wrong. Matt is getting good at coach speak and is a good interview. Matt was the one player that they were seeking out after most games last year. Matt gives good interviews.

I think Matt understands basketball and more importantly Valley Basketball. I hope Coach Marshall can get him on staff, I think he can improve the guards. Llast year when we were really hurting for scoring, he had to sometime hunt his shot. In prior years he would just lay back and sting teams when they dropped of him and make them play honest defense.

Paul Sullentrop on Matt's appearance on Sports Sunday:

"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

I'm a little suprised by Paul's tone calling Matt out like that.

I think Matt was trying to heap a little praise on Toure, and Paul seemed to run a little far with it.

That's a Bob Lutz move, make something out of nothing just to fill space. Don't go there Paul, it ain't your style.

Exactly what I was thinking. I think Matt has forgotten more about basketball and talent in the last 5 minutes than Paul has ever known in his life. This all coming from a guy that seems to think that Ellis is our starting center this year from what he could tell...

I got what Matt was trying to convey, that Toure is going to be a player out of the gate, with lots of potential which is nothing new.

                Wow

Gee, Paul's comments seemed to me pretty innocuous and even informative from a historical standpoint.

All he said was that calling Murry a potential second-team all-Valley player, even if he does play hard and improve dramatically, was a big-time stretch, which he then followed up by providing evidence of how remarkable a feat it would be (i.e., it hasn't happened in over ten years) for Murry to achieve; and that it would be extraordinary even if it's deserved on the court. There wasn't any criticism of Matt or of Murry, just the observation that Matt's comments were pretty, uh, shall we say exuberant -- which in fact they were.

If Matt's proves to be a prophet, that's great. But if Murry plays as well as Matt clearly believes he's capable of playing, I for one will be thrilled and won't care in the least whether he gets second-team media kudos or not.

Sounds like some folks have a vicarious chip on their shoulder on Matt's behalf, something I have a hunch that Matt himself really doesn't worry much about.

I'm still not sure he was talking about next season, but I seem to be an army of one on that opinion.

Ask DaShox what's going to happen. He knows everything and is never wrong. Then, since everything is about him, he'll pat himself on the back when the player doesn't achieve.

WSUwatcher seem to have a voice of reason.Shocker fans sometimes fight with each other but an outsider will expediently get rolled.I love it.Matt didn't say anything wrong,he simply stated his opinion and Paul followed up with some facts about the Valley and it's treatment of freshmen. What will be fun for me is watching it unfold. The only dig he took at Matt personally was the comments about the shorts,I thought that was a little below the belt.

I also had no problem with Sulley's comments regarding MB's interview. As for the "dig" about wearing shorts on T.V. – below the belt or not MB should take his advice. :)

My take also. It's easy to get caught up in the hype and let expectations get away from reality and Mr. Sullentrop just gave us a historical perspective to judge M.B. remarks and what they would really mean (or not mean if they don't come true).

Out of curiosity, how could a comment about shorts be anything but below the belt?

Didn't mind the shorts comment at all, in fact I agreed with it, and I wear them 99% of the time. Funny how people all have different perspectives, cause I certainly thought he backhanded Matt about his TM comments.

In my opinion it's never too early to start promoting kids, especially when you think they have the talent or potential to reach a pre-season prediction. In fact that's exactly how it works.Take all the one and done kids coming in and going out, there was a promotion machine already in place for them to get where they were going, the NBA draft. Now mind you WSU doesn't have one and done kinda talent but it's the same process just on a smaller scale ,but potential all conf talent, yes.It depends on what kind of season the team have as a whole. If they go out and suprise some people and win, then those selections will come from the winning team.Matt could have picked any number of players to predict so boldly about, they all have IT.He chose TM this time.Matt think the kid can play and apparantly so does HCGM or he wouldn't be there. The MVC is wide open this yr with no clear cut favorite or superduperstar leading them .It's time to take a bold stance, make bold predictions, have bold dreams.Kudos Matt,I guess Greg Marshall did rub off on you in that one yr.
