So a sixteen week recovery will put him in for Baylor. Lousy situation where he may be out of sync with the team four games in. I really don't see the rush to get him playing until early December. AR is at best a scorer, I don't think he had the patience or the handling to be a PG. It's gonna be Jones or , gulp, Conner at the helm.

An injury like this really shows how vulnerable we are at point guard. Conner can play in a pinch but we know he's just a game manager and not a creator. Austin has the size but lacks the strength and experience and SHJ isn't even on campus yet. The bright side is that all these guys are going to get the opportunity to step up.

I think we'll see Shamet back in action by Maui.
One of the other PG's should have no trouble with UMKC or CofC.
This is Shamet's response to when he thought he'd be back. He will be cleared to exercise and start recovering leg strength several weeks before he'll be cleared to play.
“The 14-week mark would be the first week of November, so I’d be back and fully cleared and would already be in shape,” he said. “I’m going to be smart with it.”

The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

As for AR, he had better than 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. I think the image of him being triple teamed in the backcourt and teammates being caught off-guard that they were not there quickly enought to help several times in that one game infects the recollection of how well he passes and finds open teammates. His ball handling to drive among the trees is not there yet, but then neither is his upper body strength. His court sense and presence and basketball IQ is that of a very fine point guard.Last edited by im4wsu; July 30, 2017, 12:09 PM."I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. Never fear, LS will remain near. He is injured and will have a surgery. He tells us that he will be smart and recover as soon as he can, hopefully around the start of our Season and I know he will give this effort his very all.. IMO, the rest is in God's hands. In the meanwhile, I wanted to reach for that 'panic button' to pound but suddenly remembered about Shocker history lessons from times past.
Our beloved Shocks have played in 2 Final Fours and neither were without plenty of adversity. The first one was in the Dave Stallworth, and Nate Bowman days. If I recall correctly, both of these stars played that Season but only for the first semester. Stallworth eligibility ran out that Season at Semester break and my memory fails me as to why Bowman could not play second semester. Even so, the Shocks regrouped with several local and in state players such as Jamie Thompson, Kelly Pete, and Dave Leach with the awesome coaching of Ralph Miller and fought their way to the Final 4 which was an amazing feat. Just think if Stallworth and Bowman could have played?
Next, our last Season to go to the Final 4 was loaded with injuries, more than any other team that Danced that Season that I am aware of. Wessel started out strong but was out for the Season with an injury. T. Cotton played injured in lots of games early on and must have had quite the pain tolerance. Baker then was injured and missed oodles of games but returned at the Valley Tourney. EO, Hall, and Cle also missed some games that same Season if I remember correctly. Coach Marshall did a masterful shuffling of players each and every game through all of this adversity to keep us afloat with enough winning to Dance. By Dance time, everybody but Wessel could play and our depth had been fine-tuned through it all. What was the end result of our Shocks who were picked 4th in the Valley that very Season by some experts? Final 4 number 2 for our Program.
What does all of this mean? Dunno because I am not a prophet. However, Shocker History teaches us that there are Seasons like Turgeon's last one here that start out like gangbusters where we are ranked early on with big wins over the Cuse at the Dome, etc. and then things fell apart when we thought all was well. Even so, we have 2 Final Four Seasons that the law of averages made things seem to potentially crumble like a stale cookie leaving a bad taste in our mouth like stale nachos, but yet through it all, with excellent coaching and play angry, MTXE attitudes, the Shocks rose high above the odds and Shocked the basketball world.
What does my thinking out loud on here point to for this Season? Stay tuned but we can always expect the unexpected and we know there will be obstacles along the way. If it were easy, every team would do what we do as a Program. Even so, I'm not scart (scared) and not worried because these Shockers will always be my favorite team in all of sports because they will fight and scratch every inch of the way to be successful, doing their very best and that is all a fan can ask. Get well soon LS!!!!!!!Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I am still very bitter about watching a gimpy FVV in march, knowing that he didn't need to play in the early season. I know that Angel was absolutely unstoppable and made for quite the PG duel, but I still believe we could have beaten Miami with FVV at 100%.

The only issue with AR at point is his strength. He won't get pushed around long, because that kid is all fire. Add in the TOP NOTCH training he receives at 21st & Hillside, and you've got a recipe for success.
I have no worries, and Shamet will be back in time and healthy to keep this train rolling!
