I admit it could be some wishful thinking on my part because it wouldn't make sense for him to keep his name in the running if he weren't interested, but I really do think he can do better.

I have said the same thing. But what you and I think doesn't count much. Keep in mind that CJ is not a youngster at 48 and whether or not he feels like he can wait much longer for another shot to move up is something I'm sure he is weighing. If CJ thinks NMSU is a stepping stone to bigger and better things (which I assume is probably the case) he may not be willing to wait much longer.

Hope he stays, but if not I will be pulling for him to do well just as I did for Steve Forbes. Maybe even more so. Steve was only at WSU for 2 years. CJ has given WSU 9 years of service in his two stints. As I previosuly stated he has paid his dues.

It appears to me that Jans has diligently read Coach Marshall's book of Business in College Basketball front to back, and is only doing what any soon to be highly successful head coach should be doing to better position themselves for their future career. My opinion, he will definitely be back next year. He's testing the market right now plain and simple.

This team has 1st seed potential written all over it. Jans has to know that a highly successful season with the Shocks could double any salary offer NMSU or any other school might pony up this year.

I'd like to believe he is "negotiating" for future offers and before yesterday's news that he was one of two finalists, I was pretty sure he'd be testing the waters for at least another year what with the big move to the American (not the AAC folks) and a potential National Championship run on his hands next year. But I have to admit, I'm not as confident as some of you.

Nonetheless, the man deserves another crack at the HC position and I will wish him the most hearty best wishes and success should he choose to take the NMSU job.

Major bummer. Would like for him to give us a scout on all these AAC teams one time through.

Feels like two steps forward and about a half of one back, now over the past couple of weeks. Can't believe we lost GH if this was simmering under the surface, but obviously none (few?) of us know the whole story.

                      But dammit anyway...

                        Come on!!! Damnit!
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

If we lose Jans, does Heiar come back?

Surprised. I thought he'd stay while since GM did him a solid. Odd. But maybe I'm looking at it wrong...

Multiple sources (Parrish, Norlander) reporting Jans got the NMSU job.

Happy for him, and we're going to be just fine!

                              Everybody breathe.
