Hearing the early surprise at Wichita State has been 7-foot freshman Asbjorn Midtgaard. Was impressive on @ElevateHoops circuit in 2016.
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

        I've been wondering about this.

I have been cautiously pessimistic about Mr. Midtgaard. If he is able to provide anything more than a big body and 5 fouls this year, I will be very pleased.

          • If he's ready to play, it definitely makes things more interesting at the 4/5. I personally think this is going to be a big year for Nurger. He's gotten better and more productive every year, this could be a really good year for him.

            • Still not seen A.M. play but hear he is a rim protector and that he is a really good passer. With all the Shocker bigs he is joining this Season, he does not have to be a world beater. Even so, the following Season we will hope he is primed and ready for prime time minutes.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Cotton wasn't ready for point guard as a Freshman but as a Jr. Or Sr he handled the ball well. If you look at some games, He was very good against full court pressure when teams game plan was to not allow Fred to bring the ball up. He was even the most 3rd pg when Fred went down. When Fred went down, his problem was that when Fred went down, and TC was the point, Ron was also on the bench. He had an inexperienced MM and company with him.

                  • Good luck scoring against these five college hoops teams

                    3. Wichita State Shockers

Who knows, Wichita State might fail to live up to this lofty ranking. Last season, the Missouri Valley shot just 32 percent on its 3s against Gregg Marshall's outstanding defense, and the Shockers' new conference, the American, is almost certainly going to do better than that number in 2017-18. Add to that the fact that, unlike their old MVC foes, WSU's new league opponents will actually try to (gasp!) get offensive rebounds, and the potential exists for modest defensive slippage.

Then again, we're talking about a team on which literally everyone is coming back (assuming Landry Shamet recovers from that offseason surgery). Prolonged exposure to Marshall has often been sufficient in the past for defensive improvement, and these post-Fred VanVleet and post-Ron Baker players have been around their coach for a while. Plus Shaquille Morris consistently proves that rim defense and rebounding need not be mutually exclusive activities.

The scout on him says his best trait is his defensive footwork. It appears to be true. :poster_wu:

                          • We know from Midtgaard's Euro stats that he rebounds. Now it's coming out that he's a rim protector with great defensive footwork. That seems to be a long way into Marshall's evaluations for PT. That's usually the things it takes a couple of years to get bigs to really understand.

If we're adding a 7', 275 pound guy to this year's regular rotation, there are going to be a lot of worn out post players on opposing teams by the ends of the games. Feature playing D and fighting for position against Shaq and Midtgaard and then having to cover Nurger out to the 3-point line. That's a tough scout for opponents.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Here are the comparative stats for the American and the MVC for 2016-17. Not much reason to think our defense will not hold up.

A physician called into a radio show and said:
