    • "Justin Ferguson: Where I voted Auburn basketball in my AP Top 25 ballot" - SEC Country

      by Justin Ferguson

Georgia Bulldogs news, stats, photos and video from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

      10. Auburn - Auburn actually moves up one spot this week to No. 10 after crushing Alabama at home and losing a nail-biter to Florida on the road. Granted, that ascension is mostly due to the pair of losses by Texas Tech.

      11. Cincinnati - I believe Auburn has a better résumé than Cincinnati, even though the most of my fellow voters don’t agree.:banghead:
      13. Wichita State - I’m still having a harder time giving Wichita State as much love as they’ll probably get in this poll, too.:ranting2:

Kentucky has 3 straight solid wins and is up to 24 in KenPom. I have no problem with them in the top 25.

"After importing all of the ballot data for a week, we begin analyzing the data that we've been able to gather. For each pick by each pollster, we generate an EXTREME SCORE that is basically the distance from where the pollster ranked a team to where they actually ended up in the overall poll. Each week we add up all of a pollster's EXTREME SCORES to determine the MOST EXTREME and LEAST EXTREME ballots. The MOST EXTREME ballots will often times have several picks that fall out of line of the general voting population while the LEAST EXTREME ballots will mostly be in line with the actual poll."

      Last Week Least Extreme:
Joe Juliano - The Philadelphia Inquirer (Philadelphia, PA)
J.P. Butler, Olean Times Herald (Olean, NY)
John Bohnenkamp, The Hawk Eye (Burlington, IA)

Agreed. It's really dumb that this is because of conference affiliation and not because people know anything about basketball.

And almost assures us that we will have been ranked every week of the season. I can't remember if that has ever happened before. We didn't start the undefeated season ranked did we?

We've been ranked wire-to-wire just twice before in school history:

            2013-14 (preseason 16, low 16, high 2, final 2) and 2014-15 (preseason 11, low 16, high 8, final 14).

Interesting to see the coaches drop Arizona 8 spots.

Have to work it around to 7 Big10 teams getting in somehow...

            • AP #11
All 65 voters have WSU in the top 16.
63 of 65 have WSU in the top 14.

              Bracketmatrix.com has WSU's average seed at 3.87 (#13 overall)

Somehow, I recall hearing that WSU was more likely to be in the NIT than a 4 seed. Hmmmm....

            • Andy Katz has us ranked 6th in his power 36 ranking! He knows what the shockers are all about! I wonder how high of a seed we can get if we beat cincy at home and win the AAC tourney in Orlando. Maybe a 2-3 seed?

                Assuming winning out:
                2 seed - 2%
                3 seed - 90%
                4 seed - 8%

Nothing too technical here, just my opinion.

            • Well, JH4P, it's a safe bet at this point that WSU won't be in the NIT -- but that protected seed isn't exactly locked away either.

This week's games are both eminently winnable, and no doubt we all hope and expect that they will indeed be won. But neither is as winnable as the game at Temple or the home game against SMU, and it's hardly beyond the realm of possibility that WSU could lose both. I don't really expect that to happen, but if it does, you can be sure that Seth "Lawmaker" Davis and Jerry "Lawmaker" Facepalm will be feeling vindicated about their chronic Shocker skepticism.

I'm not counting the UCF game as won, but that game is certainly more "winnable" than @Temple.

I don't think anyone at any point this entire season has argued that a protected seed was "locked up".

Those 3 teams you mentioned are all ranked top 4 in SOS. It kind of makes sense that if you played the toughest schedule in the country, nobody with an equal number of losses is going to be ranked ahead of you.

The whining over straightforward, completely logical stuff is just so lame.
