They want WSU. This doesn't seem to be a "you're lucky to have us" thing. UA is carving its share of the market by being aggressive. They have to be attentive if they truly want to slay the Nike beast. WSU has earned some clout and UA could make a lot of good looks with the Yellow and Black!

        We've lost clout?

Don't believe so. While players maybe used to be able to buy the shoes they wanted, the nature of shoe and uniform deals in the last 15 years or so has not allowed players to wear whatever shoes they want. No Shocker player has worn anything but Jordan or Nike shoes on the court in the last 5-10 seasons.

I figured they wore that because thats all players really want to wear.

I agree though, there has been little flow or evolution of our look. I would assume that's because our unis are selected and ordered by a MBB staff member, not a professional designer like you see with some of this UA stuff, the Nike Elite gear, etc.
SHOCKvalue thanks for the answers. I'm really glad WSU owns ShockerS. To me that mark and the WSU logo should go hand in hand. Also now makes sense knowing who orders unis. We are big time enough a designer should be making these decisions. Basketball is a business and the UNI is a business card. In my opinion: quit messing with the branding marks and trade marks every year.

It's certainly the preference of players as a whole. But I believe Nike has supplied us with shoes (apparently not like some other schools) for a while now. Under that agreement, the team was required to wear Nike/Jordan shoes.

Just think about it. Nike isn't going to pay us and/or provide us with shoes as our shoe sponsor if players have the option to wear other brands of shoes. Just like any other business exclusivity agreement.

That makes sense, wasn't aware of our past contracts specifics. It'll be strange not being able to check out the heat players are wearing if they are with UA.

In that press conference where 3G was wearing a Nike Elite t-shirt, the press gave him a hard time and said the players were just complaining about not getting Nike Elite gear. 3G quipped back "we have to make it this far before they start giving it to us". In hindsight, I wonder if that was a dig on Nike and he knew something better was on the horizon?

Nike put this ad out during the tournament.

When Michael Jordan's son signed with Central Florida, an Adidas school at the time, there was talk of whether Jr. would actually wear the appropriate shoes. He claimed to have been told that he could wear Nike, but Adidas gave a stern warning.

For the first exhibition game, he wore Nike, and Adidas voided the entire contract with the school. I think UCF went to Nike since then, but I remember it being ugly for awhile.

Good for Adidias. Can't let Jumpman's son show you up. They learned a good lesson too, follow the contract agreement or it over.

Great memory. I had forgotten about that fiasco. Thought it was selfish by the Jordan kid.
