I don't know about that. Louisville has great length, but Dayton works their arse off. That was scary good defense.

We will get more open shots Sunday than we did tonight.

I see the same thing... And no bs, if Dayton and WSU are both added to the AAC, it will quickly become one of the leagues best rivalry games. The Schools are different but the alumni and fan base are very similar. Everybody hates Dayton fans, everybody hates Shocker fans, it's a match made in heaven. The difference between them and the idiots in Omaha is that Dayton actually has a great basketball history with loyal fans, the sweater vest CU "fans" are fans because it is fashionable plus they are a terrible NCAA tournament team.

          • By the way, I didn't start drinking til the second half. Just don't have the stamina I used to.

Watching the UK NKU game and thinking the same thing. Dayton pushed us way out and just never let up; very tough and very disciplined. Very easy to root for the Flyers. Agree this game should not have happened now.

If UK guards the same way they are guarding NKU.... absolutely. Lots of open shots for the Norse. UK is uber athletic and has a couple nice players....but they are not as talented as the last UK team we saw in the 2nd round.

I'm still trying to figure out how to explain what I saw in tonights game. Dayton was tremendous on defense, they just lacked the size to rebound with WSU. Great effort from both teams, and so much respect between coaches. I want to say lets do this as a H-H...but at the same time I dont want to help the selection committee eliminate a team. Thats all bracket busters was, not a 'good non-con game' but an elimination game. Hard fought game tonight, something we haven't been able to witness lately.

This is a terrific post and I wholeheartedly agree.

                  • Landry should be able to get to the rim at will vs UK. They don't seem good at cutting off the drive.

                    • I found myself saying "man, we are shooting poorly" and realized I'm saying what other fans say when they play the Shocks. Just about everything happened that I thought meant the Shocks would lose: Shaq in foul trouble, can't hit a 3 in the first half, lots of turnovers, they have a player that just goes off, they are getting most loose balls, etc. But the Shocks won and that is extremely impressive. That was a dogfight and this young team never backed down and came out on top. Hats off to Dayton: Shocker fans have another team that is a kindred spirit.

                      • I think CBS wants the WSU/UK game to be the highlight of the second round. WSU has been getting unbelievable publicity about their seeding. WSU and Dayton cooperated by playing a contested game stqart to finish, even though it was an ugly game.

WSU/Dayton got the prime time slot on the main station. 7:10 on the East Coast with a guaranteed time because there was no earlier game on CBS is an effort to maximize viewership of that game.

Now, expect some hype and some replays of parts of the last WSU/UK game. This game is going to have some awesome ratings.

                        • Not looking at the stats, but thought Rauno was really solid today. Excellent post D, especially in the 2nd half, and just a strong presence in the paint. Zach Brown was nails with some HUGE shots. Landry had a rough first half - looked like a freshman a lot - but settled in and was Landry in the 2nd half. Nothing pretty, but so much toughness.

                          • Their defense was great. Our defense was great. Both play much better defense than Kentucky.

As I posted in the game thread, I think he grabbed some big time boards at key times and he also was bidding up well. He made some silly offensive mistakes and it took him a bit to get up to speed early but I believe he delivered when he needed to.

Speaking of Shamet, he showed one of VanVleet's change-of-pace, stop-and-go drives that gave him an uncontested layup tonight. I don't think Shamet's redshirt year was wasted in any way, shape, or form. I think we're going to have a 6'4" PG working on Fred's elusive moves for the next couple of years.
