Tier 2 plays one game against themselves and one game against tier 3. Tier three plays one game against themselves and one against tier 2. Tier 3 has no direct impact on tier 1. Tier 3 cannot participate in the conference tourney, but theoretically could earn an at large bid. And you can only move one tier at a time so a team like Drake couldn't have a dream season and be a 300+ team the next year in the top tier of the conference.

I think most of this is idle speculation. Elgin would have to sell this to some AD's and Presidents like someone would have to sell you a **** sandwich. We have schools in the valley (like Indiana State and Drake off the top of my head) that are less interested in prestige and winning and more interested in grabbing the NCAA money that flows back to them every year. Absolutely no interest in upgrading coaching, schedules, arenas, practice facilities (Christ, in the case of Indy State, even unis).

That's why we need to get out of this Godforsaken conference. Half the schools would like to upgrade but can't, and the other half just don't care.

But one thing most of them have in common is their hatred of the Shox.

We've beaten a lot of "senior-laden" teams this season. Not sure that is a relevant data point whatsoever.

Despite whatever talk is coming from the UofD direction - everybody has to back their boys, right - I have mad respect for Dayton and Archie Miller and I'll be rooting for the winner of this game going forward in the tournament.

Now, I think that winner will be Wichita State (see above), but I don't want to trash talk another really good program. With all of the underseeded talk, they've got a lot of bulletin board material on their end. We'd better be ready for a dogfight on Friday.

And back to the first. Best Program? Really? In the HISTORY of their program, they have made it to the round of 32 exactly 5 times. WSU has done it 5 times since 2006.

Yeah I'm not gonna really think too much about who is the better program

I just think our team is really good, deep, talented and well coached. Maybe theirs is too. But obviously I think WSU can win this game. I think WSU can beat UK, UNC and UCLA too. Maybe I'm crazy and stupid...

For a Dayton fan to bring up the programs, etc is silly. We are way too similar to be doing that. And as some have already pointed out, we do have a slight edge on the program talk.

But programs don't matter during the actual season and during the actual Dance. Program trash talking matters more in the off season and at Wal Mart in the t-shirt aisle. If programs mattered in the Dance, we wouldnt need to play the games.

I'm with you on all of the above.

Dayton- good team but I think we should win.
UK- revenge game, Fred and Ron couldn't beat Kentucky motivation.
UCLA- soft and overrated. Wouldn't be surprised if they don't make it past the first weekeend.
UNC- yeah they're really good but hey, if you can beat Dayton/UK and UCLA/Cinci, why not UNC?

I am also crazy. Of course it's also a very realistic possibility we lose to Dayton.

This is why March is fun. Before the games tip anything is possible.

Simply put, this game is going to come down to officiating. If the refs call it tight, Sir Kendall Pollard will be first-man-out and my Flyers will be in trouble. On the other Royal hand, you guys are deep and can give fouls without losing much, if anything.

I'm hoping for a physical, low scoring game and the fewer FTs, the better. I don't see My Flyers winning a track meet against you....or winning the game at the FT line.

                  King Rollo the Optimist....OUT!

                    5 P5 Automatic/20 at large bids
P5 teams are awarded at large based on metrics
Roughly 60 some odd teams competing for 20 at large bids.

Non P5 get the remaining 43 bids
                    31 automatic bids/12 at large
Non P5 conferences compete for their 12 at large based on metrics of non P5 teams
Roughly 260 teams competing for 12 bids .
I think your numbers are a bit off. There are 32 auto bids, so if you separate P5, that leaves 27 auto bids for everyone else, not 31.

I thought I counted 26 total NCAA game experience on our team. Could be wrong, but thats pretty effing experienced...
Correct, I forgot to count the loss against Miami as "experience".

I don't like to remember that brickfest either.

In full disclosure mode, our Rollo - self-appointed King of the Flyer Nation - is a high school ref. He knows first hand how games are called can impact the results.

And I disagree with one point. I think we can run on you guys. What impacts that is our defensive rebounding. Can we get enough opportunities to run?

If Elgin would divide the Valley into two divisions where teams would play a home and away series with ONLY the other teams in their division, and then only ONE game against the OTHER division teams -- the universe would open up. Then if he had leadership skills to get the MWC, AAC, or whoever to join that relegation league, we would soon be as strong as any conference out there.

                            Serious.
Hell - I think a promotion / relegation system could improve D1 basketball.

                            Top 100, 101 thru 200, 201+

Teams would play themselves in and out of the championship pool on a yearly basis.
