The problem is not the opponents WSU is lined up to face this year, but rather, the "yet again" snub that shows WSU is apparently going to get the shaft almost every year. In the future, falling 3 seeds (7 vs 10) won't be so meaningless. Next year, deserving a 4 and getting a 7 would really suck.
For awhile I was hearing people say that we were a 5 seed with a 10 seed resume...well the committee went strictly off the resume. I don't like it any more or less than anyone else. Next year the math nerds will be involved and it will be less likely for this to happen again. We had very little margin for error and the stars aligned against us with so many of our non conference opponents falling on their faces and the 3 shots at a quality win in the committee's eyes were misses.

Next year the MVC will still suck. It may be worse because there may not be an ISUr to give the Shox multiple top 50 games after the non-con is over.

Like it or not, next year will hinge completely on a few games in November and December, other than the whole win St. Louis and get a 10 seed route.

      • In other future news, assuming next year's Shocks stay healthy, the "#5 seed with a #10 resume" won't be a question for WSU a year from now. Whether it's a variation on the same theme at a much higher level we'll just have to wait and see.

No question the Valley will suck. Hopefully we get it done in Maui! I'll be there cheering us on! Of course the other option is get in the AAC!

          • The difference is that next year we will start where we leave off this year. No questions starting the season.

To get to the Final Four the Shockers will have to do some "major ass kicking" Dayton - Kentucky - UCLA - UNC. Once in the Final Four revenge on Louisville and a repeat victory over Gonzaga. This could be the best March Madness ever for the Shockers and their fans!

Even better, the same Shocker team can conduct a second "major ass kicking" lesson for the NCAA next season!

If we beat some of these teams maybe the committee will count the wins on our resume next year.

                • UK fan here. Agree, no respect given to WSU from the Committee. Dayton is good, but more like a 9-10 seed than a 7. As a practical matter WSU would be in the same spot if properly seeded as a 7, so in a sense no harm no foul. The potential matchup with UK is set to ensure a good storyline on what might otherwise be a ho-hum second round game, and guarantee tv ratings.

I'm also an IU grad, and hope Coach Marshall is fed up enough to consider taking the job in Bloomington, lol.

Good luck versus Dayton. I'd like to see the rematch!

                  • Indiana and Kentucky fan. Sure you don't root for Duke, UCLA and UNC when they are good?

You had to go and ruin a good post with that crap.

This year. Used to be a Yankees fan but is real big into Chicago lately.

I hold paper from both, so I come by it honestly. It's been no picnic as an IU basketball fan in recent years (decades really).

I'm not mad about the 10 seed because of the matchup or the possible 2nd round game. I'm mad because it says 29-5 WSU is in the NIT. And I'm especially mad because it says Marshall should find a new job.
                              This.

I'm pissed because this shows that despite having to overcome the albatross around their necks that is the MVC to build a body of work that almost everyone who knows college basketball agrees makes them a top 25 team, they are always going to be rewarded with overcoming that handicap by being handicapped again in the tourney. It shows that next year's team, which should be a top 10 team, probably better go undefeated if they want a chance of being seeded like a top 10 team. It shows that chances are very good that one of these years WSU will get to eventually claim the title of "Biggest Tourney Snub of All-Time". And it makes it damn hard to argue that Marshall has a better chance of winning a title here than at any random P5 also-ran school.

Can we please get into the AAC? I will buy season tickets to USF and give them to the most rabid Bulls fan they can find. I will send my kids to school at ECU. I'll drive a bus full of Tulsa fans to the AAC tournament every year. Name your price.

                                That's fair.
