I agree about the lighting. The cell phone thing that Illinois State did at St Louis was pretty cool. Can't do that sort of stuff with the current lighting.

That was cool. The Interlude Dance by UNI is great too, though we didn't see that this year.

If you haven't seen it, you should make a road trip to Springfield to see Missouri States JQH Arena. It is a fantastic basketball arena, and far nicer than CKA. You would be shocked given MSU's level of success. I know everyone loves CKA, but it's 62 years old and some things can't be fixed (e.g. Leg room). Not sure what the answer is, but I'm not sure it is to keep throwing money at CKA.

I recall 3Gs speaking highly about JQH as well, saying it was the best arena in the MVC (or something to that effect)

I haven't seen JQH but went to a game in Lubbock last year and their arena is fantastic. If Marshall/Bardo/Charles Koch would visit once, there'd be a groundbreaking ceremony inside of a week.

That VCU basketball facility looks sick.

Houston's had a couple of things I liked, but VCU's kicked A**! For both spending the same amount of money and Houston built theirs second, VCU had a hands down better facility.

I've been fortunate to have attended three MVC road games this year: Evansville, SIU, MSU, and also attended the MVC tournament. I was very surprised by the quality of home venues in the conference. Here are my impressions:

MSU - top notch big time arena
Evansville - plays in a downtown arena very similar in size and layout to IBA. And every bit as nice. Unfortunately they don't draw well and have to curtain off half the arena
SIU - they have a "round house" like CKA, albeit with a completely different seating configuration. I would say it is equivalent to CKA, or maybe slightly better
St Louis - Scottrade Center is a tired old dump. The only arena I saw that was clearly less than CKA

Not sure why the Valley can't improve. It's not because of the facilities I saw.

I'm sure JQH Arena is very nice but some things just shouldn't be changed. Would they tear down Cameron Arena because of leg room? Heck no. Koch Arena might be a little old and have her warts but damn she has the acoustics of a B-movie scream queen. I don't like the leg room but it gives me all the more reason to stand and cheer. Now the axilliary spaces can of course be updated. This includes offices, student center and public areas. Koch Arena will then be the B-movie scream queen with a brand new boob job. Perfect.

I know its been mentioned before, but if they wanted to add more "luxury" seats, I think it would be worth looking into what TCU did with their arena



I don't know the logistics of how lowering the floor would work or the cost, but getting those seats right up to the court would be nice!

EDIT: It wouldn't be perfect, and I yhink they could improve upon some things TCU did, but it's an idea

Total waste of money. Use those $$$ on sound or take the spirit squad to the tournaments or change the into video every once in a while (I thought for the final game at the Lieu, we shouold have the into video be highlights of the 41-point blowout). Introductions are just fine without the spotlight swinging around the spectators.

How much can some LED conversion bulbs cost? I think I saw some in the Sky Mall Magazine when I flew to Wichita. WSU would even save money on electricity.
