The refs seem to like giving double technicals when we play the Redbirds in St. Louis. Wasn't that the call with Stutz in Wilkins years back?
Yep. After Wilkins nut-punched Stutz. That was a gameplan, and it was rewarded. Wilkins and Stutz were both removed from the game with fouls, but Wilkins was pretty worthless and Stutz was pretty much unstoppable at that point.
I was saying this all morning listening to Bruce crap all over ISU today on SportsDaily. Even the "hometown" guy doesn't understand how good WSU is.
Hate to beat a dead horse, but I'm not surprised Bruce would harp the party line. I was overjoyed when when lutz left the program some time back. It's the "yeah, but..." syndrome that Chicken fans copyrighted: Conner had a good game yesterday didn't he? "Yeah, but..."

Yup, I've heard the Conner thing from several people. I disagree but the beauty of the next several weeks is that he gets a chance to shut them up.
Also, didn't we hear the similar things about FVV and Baker?

Everyone talks a big game against WSU. Until someone tells them their team might have to actually play WSU. It is funny how quickly "Yeah, but they play trash teams so it's meaningless and they also suck" turns in to "Yeah, but all the advanced metrics and tournament performance say they are actually a Top 10 team."

The Larryville guys have to be especially wary given Conner's emergence at the 2-guard. He still owes a certain toupee a receipt for a year and a half of languishing on the bench.

"And if they are in our bracket, the Committee is just trying to screw us!"

It's a storybook ending like when the villain's greatest strength was also his greatest weakness and ultimately the hero beats him with it by exploiting it. And I'm talking about Muller, not Ford or even Hawkins. Getting talent at all costs was the catch 22 that led to this unbelievable meltdown.
I understand your point, Dave, but I think you may be searching a bit too heard for the poetic justice aspect of things: 26-6 and hoping for a spot at large in the tournament may be something of a disappointment vs. where the Jailbirds were before they came to Koch Arena, but it's hardly an "unbelievable meltdown." Very few teams outside the power conferences -- and certainly none in the Valley other than WSU at this golden point in history -- would reject that sort of a season.
