Lee got 39 top three votes; Duff and Shamet got 36 combined.

According to the Valley announcement, "...45 voters served on the 2017 panel, including four voters from each school and an MVC network panel, consisting of five additional voters." So there were 41 voters able to pick guys from any given school. That means two non-Jailbird voters skipped over Lee, and AT LEAST five -- maybe more, if someone voted for both of the good guys -- non-Shocker voters spurned both McDuffie and Shamet.

Gotta wonder which games those voters were watching.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict Landry Shamet as the 2017 MVC Tournament MOP.

i believe shamet led the league in three pointers made while also having the hightest 3pt. fgp.

i believe he also led the league in asst./t.o. ratio.

and i know wichita state has waxed everybody, i mean everybody, these last six weeks. what's not to like about shamet?

and as another poster mentioned, i kind of thought that marshall would get some run for national coach of the year, nevermind mvccoy.

            that's life in the valley.

Perhaps the ones broadcast by Mitch and Mark with Enthusi-Adams screaming for half the game how Paris Lee is the Valley Player of the Year or how Jeremy Morgan is the most versatile player in the country, etc.

I'd say it's a fair bet the rest of the league not show up, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for the Redbirds and how they play. These guys, and our coach, are going to be pissed. If for no other reason than the point difference.

Just the way they like it.
The result that will energize the team the most IMHO is picking Paris Lee over Zach Brown for DPOY. That's the one that I think will piss off the Shocks the most. For one thing most of the other awards came off pretty much as expected. Every Shocker knows that Zach absolutely deserved the DPOY award.

3G called it on Monday when he said Zach was the league's best defender but would not win the DPOY award. Most of the voters just look at the stat sheet for steals and blocks with little understanding of what makes a really good defensive player.

No doubt 3G will be adding that to the stew that will be simmering in the Crock Pot between now and Friday.

Landry won't be that upset that Paris Lee got the POY over him. He won't be very happy that Zach did not get his just reward.

I will greatly enjoy it if HCGM wins National Coach of the Year this year but he did not win the MVC COY.

                          Value of All-Conference Players Returning Next Year (1st team = 3 points + 2nd team = 2 points + 3rd team = 1 point):

Value of Returning All-Conference Players Adjusted For Remaining Eligibility (Above values x years of eligibility remaining):

On the coaches show HCGM mentioned there is no real metric for defense in basketball like the WAR rating in baseball. I know some of you on here are complete basketball stat geeks, so I'll toss an idea out. There is the +- rating for your own team when a player is in, why not a similar rating for the effectiveness of the other team? Since the whole point is to prevent scoring, could it be based on points per possession or something like that? How challenging would that be to compute?

Oh, and I hope the guys take the snubs in the awards with offense, get a little chippy, and LEAVE NO DOUBT.

Maybe I'm reading your formula wrong, but I think the Shox come out a bit better.

                              Shamet 3 points x 3 years = 9
                              McDuffie 3 points x 2 years = 6
                              Morris 1 point x 1 year = 1
                              Frankamp 1 point x 1 year = 1

                              Total is 17.

Marshall has no chance for CoY in the near future. Not with the quality of players he has on the team. Evidently having good players is a negative when evaluating coaches. That goes a long ways in explaining some of the coaching hires and contract extensions in the league.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
