Chaminade wants to score an upset of a big-time team. The Shockers are the only participant likely to get a preseason top 10 ranking, and I suspect Chaminade will view this as a chance to beat a top 10 team on national TV. I think we get the 1 seed.

I'm more interested in seeing how they set up the rest of the bracket. It's in the best interests of the tournament to have the 4 best teams playing semifinal games on ESPN at 7 and 9:30pm at night rather than good teams playing games during the work day, but beyond WSU and Notre Dame I'm not sure anyone else will be ranked.

i wouldn't rule out notre dame as a #1 seed. bonzi colson is that good.. preseason 1st team all-american for sure (season ending ncaa poy also? probably).

'haven't yet looked at notre dame's preseason team basketball ratings though. top 15?

Chaminade more likely to beat Notre Dame than us.
Why walk somebody in baseball when you can hit them?

I think we are more likely to beat Notre Dame than Chaminade. I think you are selling us a little bit short.

I was referring to the previous poster saying it is a possibility for Chaminade wanting a big-time opponent on national t.v.

I am saying Chaminade would not have a chance against us. Chaminade would have a better chance at getting an upset over Notre Dame.

Our experience would suggest we will be tougher early on than last Season adapting to no Bake and no Fred-Van-Smooth. Thus, it would sure be a feather in the Shockers cap to take Maui by storm. It will be helpful to our team development to meet som stiff competition to get us primed and ready for a rigorous and demanding schedule including much stiffer Conference play. The Shocks have been longing for this and having lot's of tough encounters along the way tends to better prepare for Dancing in March and we hope April.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I hope you're right. Our record in early season tourneys is not stellar and I'm hopeful this year we'll right the ship.

                  You missed the joke
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

No injuries and lots of experience should make us the team to beat in that there early season tourney.

Early season success, more experienced players, set roles and more consistency will probably mean less significant performance improvement during the course of season than in the past.

I agree. We will probably not have the performance discrepancy (peaks and valleys) we had last year, although we will still have peaks and valleys, they will be less pronounced. The key is that hopefully, we have a peak in March but hopefully our ending performance is higher than last years end performance.

Chaminade's current record in the invitational is 7-78. They have only made the championship game once in the 30+ years of the tournament, and that was the inaugural year in 1984. Also, starting next year, they will not participate to allow another DI school to participate.

That's a bummer, won't be the same without them.

That's partially true. In even years Chaminade will now be one of the pre-tournament games for teams going to Maui. This was done to allow the Chaminade players the chance to play at some big arenas against the big teams away from Maui and to also help with their recruiting. In odd years they will still play in the main field so they aren't gone completely.
