Soooo has anyone bought the travel package through Maui Jim? If not, why not?

I've traveled to Maui a few times over the years so I have an idea of hotel costs. When you factor out the price of tournament tickets on the Maui Jim package you're left with room costs in the neighborhood of about $500 plus per night. That is for a "Resort View" only room, a little high in my opinion even when you factor in Thanksgiving week. I had checked ticket prices during the 2016 tournament and they were selling in the $50-$75 price range. Early tickets are selling for $130 for a single game. When you you add it all up, it gives the impression Maui Jim is a little aggressive, ergo a "firm believer" in free market capitalism. Don't read too much into it, just a little jab at the pricing.

As for Maui, if you're into golfing, by all means take your sticks as there are some great courses to be conquered.

The north side of Maui up by Kapalua can get a bit breezy in the afternoon. Down south by Kihei the wind was less of a factor as I recall. Of course we all know wind doesn't affect a well struck ball :eek-new:. Across the water from West Maui on the island of Lanai is The Challenge At Manelle Bay. The course hugs the coastline on several holes, lunch on the clubhouse patio afterwards all makes for a nice getaway. There's a ferry boat that leaves from Lahaina and takes about 40 minutes, on the other side they have vans that will deliver you to and from the golf course.

When you say tickets were $50-75 last year, was that on StubHub, buying direct from the event, or buying from participating schools? And that was at the time of the event? Thanks for the info.

Well, I just looked back at what we spent in 2010 and it looks like WSU only game package was $330 compared to $390 now...so not much of an increase in comparison. The real increase was in the trip itself. We're staying at the same resort as last time for a week. In 2010 we spent $950 per person for 2 couples in a 2 bedroom condo on the beach with flight and rental car. This year it's around $1700 per person. The packages through the tournament or Sunflower travel were insanely expensive the last time I looked, that's why we aren't going with them. ...and our group of 10 got our game tickets ordered yesterday so we're ready to go now!

It was from the Maui Jim website the weekend before and in between the games. IIRC, they had extra tickets on sale for SOME of the games, I believe in the $30-$70 range. That probably colored my expectations for this year, my bad. I do recall that they were sold out (at that time) for the championship game and maybe one of the semi-final games. Here's a link that indicates there were tickets on sale to locals (no help to us) in September.

The arena only holds 2400 people. Looking at the 2017 field, I would expect WSU, Michigan and Notre Dame to travel well, VCU, LSU, Marquette, so-so, Cal Berkley will be too busy protesting and Chaminade, who knows. Do you think Chaminade still haunts Ralph Sampson in his dreams? Watching the games last year, the arena looked packed just about every game. Bottom line I guess, "You don't pays your money, you takes your chances".

If your trip is predicated on lounging on the beach, make sure your resort HAS a beach. There are several resorts located along the ocean, but their beaches are rocky or non-existent.
