WSU vs Evansville Game Thread

I've seen Zach Bush say things to students before. At Evansville last year, Shaq fouled out and as the crowd was chanting "left, right" he kept taunting them by pretending to sit down. That's all I've ever seen.

I remember at one away game last year, the student section (maybe Drake) was giving Ron heck about his sister. He was always patient when they talked about his hair, or his alleged preference for cargo shorts, and the like, but he was clearly not amused when they were saying things about his little sister. Just before the half, he drilled a half court shot, and turned around and gave them a "do not mess with me" look.

Fred brought us back, nearly single-handedly, when down by 19 or 21 at MSU with 10 minutes left. This was during our undefeated season.

I've never been to an away game. Do our players or coaches ever react to what the student section is yelling at them? I know someone mentioned they did at UNI, but for some of the more aggressive student sections?

Rauno was having fun with the UNI students during pre game and half time shoot arounds. Took a selfie with at least one. The bench was having fun with them too. I'm not real sure CJ wasn't the one that got them chanting to get JRS into the game. 3G gave them a nod and a smile when he sent the 3rd five into the game.

In conference, and after 7 games, 4 on the road, it's a pretty good sample size, WSU is shooting .418 from 3. That's a really solid number.

BUT, and I know it's cherry picking, eliminate the walk ons and Hamilton and take out ZB's 4-25 (that's got to change one way or the other) and its 47.7% (62-130).

That's a huge number. Markis, Shaq, Rauno, C.J., Rashard and Austin all at 50% or better and the big volume guys, Shamet 43.2% and Frankamp 45.2%.

Pretty good shooting.

I don't want them to "fall in love" with the 3 in the sense that they take bad ones or only look for 3s rather than getting inside, but if any of those guys are open they'd better well shoot it.

Well that's just silly. He's JT Durley. Has been for 4 years. I'm hopeful he has a monster senior season like Durley, while managing to spend a little less time than Durley did floating around the 3PT line.

Having big guys who are able to consistently pick and roll to the basket or pick and hit a 3 is huge. It completely changes the lanes for our guards to attack the basket because the two defenders have to respect both. And when they are at the 3 point line their defender can't just hang back and crowd the lane to protect against a drive either.

Austin has taken the please penetrate plea to heart. He did it, or attempted to, against ISUR and again last night. Not much to show yet but I think he'll get it figured out.

Just a footnote. When Zach was a freshman, Señora Rio and I were very excited about his 3 point shooting. Here is his history.

16-17 31.9% (22-69)
15-16 30.6% (26-85)
14-15 42.3% (11-26)

Yes, I know the sample size for 14-15 is small.
