I know it is a point belabored, and ultimately no one's fault, but damn the home slate at CKA so far this year has been atrocious. So far we've played (kenpom rankings):

D2 Augusta (obviously, to be expected as an exhibition)
#318 SC State
#187 LBSU
#142 Tulsa
#322 Maryland - ES
D2 SNU
#312 SLU
#231 SDSU
#243 Bradley
...and tonight #268 Drake

For an average of 253, and a median of 237. That's excluding the D2 schools, who you could conceivably add as #352 and #353 if you really wanted to work the numbers.

In my years as a season ticket holder, I've never been this unexcited and unmotivated to go to so many games as I have thus far this season (although I have still filled my seat, clapped and cheered in workman-like fashion). The MVC slate starting helps a bunch, but gah...

Is this a derivative of the "why don't you just call Coach Marshall and tell him how to do his job" shtick? If it is, I award you 10/10 for posting that most original of SN's responses in like 46 seconds after I wrote what you quoted. That has to be a forum record for that discussion-killing and thought-killing tangent.

How hard is it to schedule schools like VCU, George Mason, SMU, Houston, etc.. Those good schools that also are looking for quality opponents?

I guess that's my though process...even if WSU only scores 90 which i think is pretty feasible, i think Drake gets to 60 yet.

These comments seem to disregard the fact that many of these games/series are agreed to years in advance. LBSU was in the NCAA in 2012 and picked to their conference this year. South Dakota State was in the NCAA 2012, 2013 and 2016. Saint Louis 2012, 2013, 2014. Tulsa 2014, 2016. Who could know a couple years ago that 2016-2017 would be a disaster for these teams.

Regarding the 4 other schools mentioned. Only VCU has had recent NCAA success but they were never going to schedule WSU. Too much bad blood. GMU has not been to the NCAA since 2011. Houston 2010. SMU has had recent success (tainted) but Jankovich isn't scheduling Gregg Marshall.

Look back one year. Who was the better opportunity this year for WSU, OSU or OU? Didn't see that coming last January did you.

Well, in my post I did offer a disclaimer that the home OOC this season was no one's fault necessarily; however, count me as someone who would take a hypothetical #200 or #250 Houston or Fresno St or UMASS or GWU everyday and twice on Sunday over a hypothetical #200 or #250 Eastern Shore or NC Central or SC State. Sometimes the fan draw is not so much the competitiveness of the opponent, as it is an identifiable, approximately peer opponent.

The continuance of Tulsa and SLU, and the possible addition of CSU, are fine and dandy by me, they just collectively crapped the bed this year. Like you said, no one could have known.

And I will add that I fear that the collective bed crapping could really hurt us come March.

Not sure what to say to this. Lets look at the scheduled based on what they would know when they created the schedule.

LAST YEAR KenPoms (deviation from this year) [Last Year RPI on Selection Sunday]
SC State - 268 (+50) [205]
LBSU - 107 (+80) [79]
Tulsa - 65 (+77) [58]
Maryland ES - 318 (+4) [307]
D2 SNU -NA
ST Louis - 225 (+87) [206]
SDSU - 80 (+151) [28]

On average the D1 non-con teams that came into Koch arena this year were ~75 spots higher in kenpom last year. That the AVERAGE deviation from last year. If I want to go 1 step further and say that the St Louis game was set 4 years ago and they were KenPom 19 at that time. So a deviation of 293 in KenPom from the point of signing the contract. You can't blame that on coach.

From a more important RPI standpoint we had home games against 1 Top 50 team, 3 Top 100 Teams to go along with OU and Atlantis giving us a potential of 3 Top 25 teams (OU, MSU, UL) on top of those home games.

So Non Con provided chances for (based on last year RPI):
Top 25: OU, MSU, UL
Top 50: SDSU
Top 100: LSU, LBSU, Tulsa

7 Top 100 games, Yet only UL is the ONLY team that is performing close to their last year performance ...

Yet again, can't look at this schedule in hindsight and call for someone's head. That just makes you look dumb and uninformed.
