I guess you watched the game and felt like the team was mentally ready for the task at hand....

It was specifically called out as a unique move for this game by this coaching staff.

I know other coaches use similar items, but I think it is a bit much to say team OSU is so good on defense that they effectively have wingspans six feet longer than our defenders.

Once again - I had my concerns before the game. Maybe the butt kicking was an incorrect confirmation bias.

That's a completely different subject than blaming paddles. Silly logical fallacy

We've done this before and do some variation at numerous practices before games we've won.

If you disapprove of the paddles call in to his show and tell him

Im with you on the game preparation or lack thereof issue but I think much has to do with our inability to defend plays that everyone in the stands saw coming time after time.

Paddles or no paddles it appears the Shocker coaching staff was not successful at emulating what the Shockers would be facing against WSU and how to deal with it. The bottom line is OSU took in to the Shocks in about every way possible and in all facets of the game, tangible and intangible. After they fell behind early some panic may have set in.

I had some hope when the Shocks pulled to within 9 points at 38-29 with about 3:30 left in the 1st half after trailing by 18 at 31-13 with at around the 9 minute mark. Unfortunately, OSU had a big answer going on an 11-2 run over the next 2 to 3 minutes. The Shocks never got closer than 13 after that and never had the looks of a team that was capable of a big comeback.

You never know how a team will react to a performance like this. We will find out soon enough. I am optimistic the response will be good. Perhaps more hopeful than optimistic. I guess we will see.

              1) Dribble drive tends to give Marshall teams issues. Ref. Rodriguez, Washpun, Knight, Ahelegbe, etc. Every defense has it's weak points. Evans is really good and will probably be in the NBA next year.
              2) Fred would have driven more? Would he have been successful? Seem to remember a lot of debate last year on Fred's driving. Besides, what good is driving if you don't finish. It happened in the first 30 seconds Saturday.
              3) Leadership is missing and I really don't know where it's going to come from.
              4) OSU had a really good game, punched us hard and fended off the one attempt we made to get back in the game. In other words, they did to us what we usually do to our opponents. Happens.
              5) I really don't think any MVC teams are going to scare this team. The question is will they be scared in March.
              6) This team will move on from this one loss.

              7) Oh, and paddles can be used for spanking which is what Gregg might have done yesterday.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Perhaps a timeout would have help. Anyway that's what I said to the guy next to me after OSU then got a layup, CF jacked up a 3 late in the clock, and OSU took the rebound for a fast break layup and it was quickly 42-29.

Because when you are really good and experienced, playing in front of a large hostile crowd is fun!

This criticism is not necessary because Marshall himself said that he didn't do the right things to get the team ready and was self criticizing. He also said that how his players respond to adversity is what is important now. Ggg doesn't always push the right buttons but his track record is pretty good. We still will probably struggle this year on occasion but I trust GM to get the job done.

That doesn't mean it was a good strategy that worked. Pretty sure no tennis racquet prep changed Alcindor's dominance.

They were definitely not mentally ready for this game. In addition to that, I would lean towards OSU simply being the definitively better team as well. I believed before the game that OSU is much better than people believed this year and obviously believe so even more afterwards. I'm not convinced that any amount of prep would have resulted in that L turning to a W on that night against that team...possibly change the result from a complete embarrassment to a MSU type loss, but I think the result we got was better in the long run for this team. If he doesn't have this group's full attention now, it isn't happening this year.

Regardless, I heard a quote on the news with Marshall talking about specific prep they did with the players for this game backfiring and can't help but wonder if he was alluding to the exact thing you are getting hammered for....but I guess your point can't be valid because you didn't bother to call into a radio show to confront Marshall on it.

Shaquille Morris did not make it through the entire practice due to a thigh contusion he suffered prior to the Oklahoma game. In fact, he told the coaching staff he should not have played against Oklahoma State. Marshall does not know if Morris will be available Thursday against South Dakota State.
Everyone is aware how bad the Shockers looked on Saturday against Oklahoma State. However, it's time to turn the page - especially for the team.

It's about making shots. If the Shox hit layups, that game is tight in the first half. We're over thinking things
