I hate to say it but we haven't had that exciting product so far this year at home.
I dunno, its pretty damn exciting to watch how much talent we have on this team.

We can't control that LBSU totally destroyed their confidence with their crazy road schedule (honestly, WSU may have broken them). We can't control how good these other teams are. Tulsa and SLU are from the conference's we want to target. Additionally, why should we be trying to schedule crazy hard with a team that is still trying to identify roles?

I'm very excited about the product we are putting out there. I do like the idea of trying to engage campus groups to participate in games together. Go to the leadership of fraternities/sororities and get ideas for Greek competitions during the season. Maybe trot out a 7ft goal and have the students do the dunk competition, putting Greek houses against each other.

Get dorm leadership to sponsor events at each game. Themes, etc. The university is always looking to get more traditional strident engagement on campus. Make it concurrent with a basketball game.
My point is that from the casual fan's perspective, or the new student that doesn't know what Shocker Basketball is all about, there hasn't been that much to be excited about yet. Its much different for us diehards and for folks that have followed the Shockers for years or even decades.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

      • So the product is boring because everybody is used to winning and we're too good that we're blowing teams off the map that come in here?

Maybe, Marshall should start all the walk-ons to appease the competitive spirit of the casual fans.

        ... No really, deuces.

True. And for some reason those same students there were here last year and the year before and the year before that have all disappeared.

If the players are noticing and think it's a problem, then it's a problem. Why would I wanna bust my ass with hours of practice each week and laid it all out on the line each game if no one cares?

          • Supply and demand. If the students are not using their tickets then
policies should be changed. Allot 500 student season tickets at $150
per ticket. Set aside another 500 individual game tickets at $5 per
ticket that must be purchased NLT one week prior to the game and
make those not purchased available to the public for $20. I'd bet the
season tickets would sell out to the students that really want to go to
the games and support the team. The fact that remaining tickets are limited will
create more demand and the remaining 500 will sell better to those
that are the MOST interested and LIKELY to use them.

Can we please stop talking about a change in pricing or allocation for student tickets? It's a non-starter. There is a deal in place and it cannot be changed at this time.

Any deal can be changed. Just requires both parties to agree. Attempting to change it might drive students to take advantage of what they have.

This. If students are not using the student tickets, then the SGA should have no issues with renegotiating the deal. If that is not acceptable to the SGA, then they need to help find ways to get the students to show up to support the program, the players, and the university.

                  • For the first time this season there was a line at the ticket office for student tickets.

I doubt the AD has any incentive to renegotiate anyways. I am certain that they will receive more in the current deal than in any other deal that involves the students who attend to pay for the tickets. Basically, it's not going to change.

Really? Getting a little dramatic, Fev.

There should be many reasons that come well before a full house of noisy fans and students. Love of the game and competing maybe?

Was this for the IBA game against OSU?

Absolutely. I'm sure those needs are being met.

But if during an actual game, a coach or player begins noticing gaping holes in typically filled sections from the biggest and closest representatives of the school, I'd wonder wtf is up. I'm sure players like McDuffie were told they'd be playing in front of 10,500 screaming fans every night and that was part of the deal when recruiting him and others.

If you don't wanna try to understand the players/coaches psyche in all of this, then it's probably not even worth arguing over.
