  • WSU Versus St. Louis Predictions and Pregame Discussions.

Here's the deal. What is a Billiken anywho? Down here at 21st and Hillside, it could be defined as a Charm Doll coming in but a Rag Doll when our surly Shocks get done with them. No Rams, no Cardinals, no Hawks, no Arch to Getaway, and no mercy when our stingy, play angry, brusque Defense gets done with them. GRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

St Louis goes from the frying pan with their home loss tonight to K-State to the fire here Tuesday at 7-p.m. SLU are now 4-4 and play in the Atlantic 10. They are now Coached by former Ok. State Coach Travis Ford. Last Season they were 11-21 overall and 5-13 in Conference play. An early Christmas dose of '40 minutes of pain' await them but at least they have the audacity to play us. They are in a rebuilding mode and will have their hands full in our game.

Rauno had a nice game with them a Season or two ago. However, our 4 guards will light up the scoreboard like a Christmas tree in this game. CF will sink five- 3-pointers leading our 4 guards alone to 44 points of our 80 team points as we win by 25. Shaq will only have 3 fouls and #12 will score 11.

Many moons ago, St. Lew played in the Valley. We were playing them as I watched on the black and white tube when skywalker Warren Armstrong seen a missed Shocker shot, came flying in, jumped up with the greatest of ease, high above the square, caught it, and slammed it in hard on his trek back down to the hardwood. This unbelievable play defied the laws of gravity so much I still remember it to this very day. Not Sure what his vertical leap was but it had to be in the elite select few of the best Shockers ever to play for us.

K-State won by 30 in St. Louis tonight.

This game may be a worse anchor than UMES.
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

Unfortunately the Current Valley of Death has a very different meaning than it did in the 1960's. Today it means the Valley is killing our ability to build an NCAA at-large resume.

            Wouldn't the better descriptor be:

            Former Valley of Death Member---------------55
Currently Too Big For Our Valley Britches-----80

I hope the home and home with this team ends very soon. They were only a good opponent the very first season we played them. This will indeed be a blowout and an RPI hit. Fun fun fun...

So is this the first ever real prediction by 1972Shocker or just a quote to prove a point? Yes, certain fans get overconfident but we never know what will happen on the hardwood, who might get hot, and crazy things happen on the Valley road. That's why they play the games. However, Coach Marshall will not ever allow our players begin to think our Valley trek will be a cake-walk. Each game will be paramount and will be prepared for by the max.

While I do believe we will win the MVC this Season, we will have some teams that would love to rain on our Parade and we will be the Hunted by every team we play. However, until another Valley team wins the Conference, we are still are the present Champions and the team to beat in this here Valley Race to come. I do like the "Former Valley Of Death Member" but was making a play on words about the Billiken name. No disrespect intended. The word "britches" or similar terms just keeps appearing here on SN this Season.

This series screams buy games. Only you don't play games on the road against a team that should be bought.

I hope this series ends soon.

I actually find the history of school mascots to be kind of interesting. Especially, the unusual mascots like the Shockers and the Billikens.

Here is the history of the Billiken.

So, you don't believe Travis Ford will bring the level of the program up?

He might, but it's definitely going to take a while, thus continuously dragging the schedule down. There has got to be better options for home and home series.

I think the improvement will come sooner rather than later. They have a pretty solid recruiting class coming in next year.

St. Louis is 2-5 and they haven't exactly played an overly tough schedule.

St. Louis has started the same 5 guys in all 7 games with all 5 starters averaging 27 to 31 minutes per game:
                              #11 Jermaine Bishop: 6-1, 180 So G; 12.0 PPG, 4.0 APG
                              #05 Davell Roby: 6-4, 200 Jr G; 11.9 PPG, 3.6 APG
                              #35 Reggie Agbeko: 6-7 235 Sr F; 10.6 PPG, 9.9 RPG
                              #32 Mike Crawford: 6-4 200 Sr G; 8.6 PPG, 5.4 RPG
                              #33 Elliott Welmer: 6-9 220 RFr F; 8.4 PPG, 5.0 RPG

Looks like only about 3 guys play much off the bench:
                              #23 Zeke Moore: 6-5, 185 Fr G/F; 17.0 MPG, 4.1 PPG, 1.1 RPG
                              #20 Jalen Johnson: 6-7, 200 Fr F; 13.4 MPG, 5.9 PPG, 2.4 RPG
                              #24 Aaron Hines: 6-0, 175 RJr G; 9.1 MPG, 2.9 PPG, 1.1 RPG

Good balance among the starters but the bench has averaged 15.3 PPG this year. Shocks clearly with a major advantage in bench strength.

In last year's 68-53 win by the Shocks in St. Louis the Billikens had 3 players in double figures none of which are on this year's Billikens roster. Of the returning players Davell Roby had 8 points and 5 assists, Reggie Agbeko had 3 points and Mike Crawford 2 points in last year's home loss to the Shockers.
