I laughed at the after-game interview with HCGM. The questioner (I think it was Lutz) said, "The crowd loves Austin." HCGM responded, "The coach loves Austin."

          • There was a point late last night where LBSU was pressing and Austin had the ball at the time line and he took a split second to do the math that there were too many LBSU players in the backcourt and rifled a pass up the sideline to an open player on the wing. I could just tell that he got it, but it wasn't automatic yet at DI(ish) speed. He doesn't strike me as a player that needs to learn the same situation twice. That play next time is a dunk for someone.

Edit, Was a 3 for Brown. Immediately preceded the Fred like shot fake/pass fake 15 footer.

              • Amazed at the quality and depth of this year's team at this early stage.

And they only going to improve even more as the season progresses.

                • Went to the game with my uncle. We sat in general admission and I was pretty disappointed at the open seats there. We got there about 30 minutes before tip off and had probably 5-7 rows completely empty. When the game started there were 4 rows (including ours) that were nearly empty.

What saved the lack of bodies was that one of the Sunrise Academy teams showed up and thats a lot of big dudes that sat up there.

Game was tight for the first 4-5 minutes and there wasn't a huge seperation or difference between wsu and lbsu. Under 10 and it started to swing WSU's way a bit and WSU kept on the gas to end the half up 10 and never gave much back.

                  • My favorite AR play was on the south end. Took the ball inside the arc on the right 45 degree angle, stopped and looked to pass left, turned back to right and found nobody, so he shot from about 14 feet...nothing but net. He is NOT a freshman, it's just his first season here

                    • Per KenPom, last night's game had 78 possessions (it's technically an estimated number, but very accurate if you did a regression of estimated vs. actual). The only game we've played with that many or more possessions in the last six years (back to 2012) was in the foul fest vs. Nevada last year. Part of it was LBSU's press, but part of it is this team's ability to run, press teams, and create turnovers in the half court with their athleticism.

If we're going to run 10 deep, we might as well push the pace. The Beach was able to hang around in the first half, but they seemed pretty gassed in the 2nd half.

I noticed a lot of players huffing and puffing midway through the first half - on both teams. The depth and conditioning of the Shox is going to demoralize a lot of teams this year.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Especially once CJ gets up to speed. His athleticism is evident, even in the short time I've seen him on the court so far. Just one more morsel on the buffet line!

                            • More on Open Seats in the Student Section

MJbaker84, this may answer your concern about all the open seats. I assume you are referring to the student section. I found out more background about it on Facebook. It seems at Shocker Maniacs (student section) came up with an idea to support the Women's game with Creighton in the afternoon, so that meant they were not able to attend both the men's & women's games. But, for the women's game, they were given wrist bands so they could sit wherever they wanted to. As it turned out, they were not allowed to do so, so they are pretty unhappy about it. I don't know if there is a certain section reserved for season ticket holders at the women's games or not. If there is, I can certainly see why the students wouldn't have been allowed to sit in those particular seats. On the other hand, I doubt if the women's team sells very many season tickets. It does look like they are going to be a very good team this year because they defeated Creighton by 8 pts & they are co-favorite picks to win the Big East.

So, they got upset that they couldn't sit where they liked, and left?
