This was not a game to make that kind of statement.

The Conner can't play PG stuff is getting almost as tired as the Evan can't play PF stuff did. I mean, we're two games in. We should probably go ahead and take his scholarship away now before it's too late.
Most of the posts about Frankamp in this thread have either been supportive or hyperbole. The criticisms seem to be disagreements with the hype.

Check out this stats link. Scroll down and compare the stats of our #1 and #2 PG's. It's really easy, since the stats are sorted by scoring average. You will find Smith and Frankamp right below Simon.

When our #1 and #2 PG's are 0/7 from the field and 0/0 from the FT line, there's going to be some comments that are not flattering - and it doesn't matter what name is on the back of the shirt.

    • Oh, we're going Jamar on this and bringing out the stat sheet after two games? An exhibition and a blowout win? I'm sorry but those stats are meaningless at this point.

FWIW, HCGM was the one that said 'PGs are judged by wins and losses.' This was said post-game to Mike Kennedy when referring to CF and DS being held scoreless.

I don't recall Daishon's shots too well, but Conner threw up two heavily guarded threes as the shot clock was expiring. While it's certainly noteworthy that neither scored, it's not really a concern either.

          • Conner is a veteran and experienced under some pretty decent coaching.
Is he the answer to the pg questions?
            That is TBD.

But watching the SCS game from the 8th row showed two issues.
            1) He doesn't even look at the basket when in possession of the ball. I watched 6 straight possessions and not even a glimpse at the hoop, let alone an attempt to penetrate or ball fake.
For someone who is the designated team sniper, that's not a good thing.
            2) He certainly doesn't have the foot speed to make defenses respect a drive or lane push. It just isn't there.

I know it was his 1st game and he is a skinny Minnie, but AR would make me find a way to be more of a threat as a pg, or my minutes might start to decrease as the season (and AR develops) moves along.

Yes, I am in town for the first couple of games. Fever need not attempt to stalk as RefChick and I are keeping a low profile.
However, we did try out Greystone last night. Now that was some seriously good steak!

            That is all.

The stat sheet was brought up to show that "Mission Accompl;ished" might be a little premature. It's also premature to say that he can't play the position.

From the time Conner announced WSU, I've said that he's not a natural PG and would have to learn the position. Wow, did that get some panties in a wad. Many of the posters who weren't uber-enthusiastic about Frankamp are now saying that he's learning the position.

I thought he looked more like a PG in this game than he has previously. His tendenc6y last year was to dribble east and west and then pass to the most open player on the court, which was often a pass toward the half-court line. I've got no problem with a scoring PG. If there isn't an entry pass to the post, put a move on a defender and either go to the hoop or shoot a 3.

There has been very little, if any, criticism of Frankamp in this thread. Somehow, anything other than praise is viewed as criticism. I don't think noting that he didn't seem able to penetrate is criticism. That's called an observation.

4 assists in 20 minutes is outstanding, even against an overmatched opponent. A PG who isn't able to penetrate into the lane is going to end up shooting guarded 3's as the shot clock expires. The PG sticking a 3 or penetrating as the shot clock expires is a common result of a good defensive stand. It's the shot of last resort when nothing else has worked.

But those 3-balls from Conner were what is reputed to be his forte, ball in his hand with 5-6 seconds to make his move and shoot off the dribble. So far he has in his time here, he has shown only one move to get open off the dribble and that is the stab-step and step back and launch.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree. I like AR too. But as long as we win and our team is successful, Gregg is looking for leadership more than stats. That could change but we have good team depth and our point guard has to put himself secondary to the team. It's to CFs credit that he isn't hunting for his shot. His reputation precedes him and as long as defenses are drawn to stop his shot and as long as he makes the extra pass as he did against SCSU ( and plays solid defense), he will be Greggs choice for our point guard.

I think that Gregg is more likely to play Daishon (more minutes)when our opponent has a super quick guard match up.

All three of you just made my point (and demonstrate how little you know).

CF is what he is - a 'catch and shoot' player and last night it was on full display for all to see.

He was able to do what he does best when Smith was in and running the show.
He ran off screens, created space, got his feet set and fired away upon receiving the ball.

For some reason you buffoons think I don't like him, which couldn't be farther from the truth. I banged my fist into the seat in front of me when he nailed his first bomb from 25'.

He did what he is capable of doing and did it well (and LB had much better players guarding than SCSU.

Not sure why that is so hard to understand (or accept).

                                That is all.
