Add me to the list of Conner supporters. Comparing him to past PGs is irrelavent, he's the best we've got right now and he's pretty good. Was Wessel the best power forward of the last 10 years? No, but he was effective for us at that position and he played his role as good as he could. Luckily for Conner he has Shamet and McDuffie on the wings that can do some of the driving and dishing, or kick it back out to CF for 3.

And every single time Conner gets the ball to the post, from anywhere on the court, the opposing team is going to have to let our post player go 1-1 (and I'll take Shaq against almost everyone in the country 1 on 1) or double down and risk giving Conner an open 3. I like those options.

Currently watching the replay vs Augusta -- yup, watching an exhibition game replay... What a long off season it's been!

How would you rank Conner - AS A POINT GUARD, NOT A SHOOTING GUARD - against Clevin Hannah, Joe Ragland, Malcolm Armstead, and Fred Van Vleet?

I think his ceiling - which is all that is important here - is last among that group. I think that Daishon, Austin, and Landry have higher ceilings.

Unfortunately, we're making the comparison with guys who have finished their careers and a guy who has had very few D-1 games under his belt as the PG.

Given what I saw yesterday, however, I'm comfortable with CF running the team and believe he will only get better as the season rolls along.

Austin Reaves could really use a redshirt shirt to build up his body. With Shamet and JR both appearing to be serviceable PG's, we could probably afford it. He's probably to good for that, however.

I think Marshall said in the eagle that there will probably be No one redshirting this year

There is no doubt in my mind what-so-ever that Conner is our best option at point. The only times the offense had any flow to it at all yesterday was when he was at point. We have a lot we need to improve on, but Conner at point isn't one of those worries.

                  1. Austin Reaves is going to be really really good.

                  2. I paid 5 bucks for a program, and a large popcorn is much smaller than before. Such is life in the fast lane.

                  3. Willis may be our best athlete.

                  4. Frankamp needs to shoot more. Same old, same old.

                  5. Love to watch Kelly on the inbounds press.

                  6. It would be wise to redshirt somebody, cause we have too many to play.

                  7. Brown had a really disappointing day, I thought.

                  8. Shaq gets up sooooo quickly.

                  9. I wish Tekele woulda been here to shut that kid down.

                  10. Free throws.......gotta do better...........somebody should phone in.

On #6, I don't think we have too many. Neither Shaq nor Rauno got into foul trouble. There will be games where one or both do. When that happens, it shifts everyone over and really thins out the guards.

A lot of folks were super impressed with Reaves. While I'm very high on his long term potential, and believe he will be a contributor this year, here's the things I saw that lead me to believe he still has a ways to go:

On the press, Reaves tried to guard the inbounder in the middle of the defense. Kelly had to grab and throw him to the wing position. They broke the press on his side and Reaves stuck with the forward forcing Kelly to guard the PG in the offensive set.

On two occasions he nearly lost his dribble when being pressured. He was skilled enough to retain it, but several seconds ticked off the shot clock and the offense had to be reset.

He got trapped at half court, panicked and turned the ball over.

He drove to the paint and tried to hit the 7 footer over two power forwards in the lane.

There was lots of good he did, which others have eluded to, but I'm not going to go over that here. None of his mistakes make me any less confident that he will be a stud someday. There was a large gap in effectiveness between Frankamp/Shamet and Reaves yesterday.

So basically you are saying he is a freshman? Got it lol ;)

I was very impressed with him because he IS a freshman and on top of that missed a lot of practice and chance to learn becaude of his shoulder.

I think he will be a huge help early and an even bigger help in a couple months. They say he has a high basketball IQ. If so then his learning curve will be quicker than most freshmen
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

Yep, I'm saying he's a freshman and all that implies. Where I disagree is that he will be a huge help early.

Sorry to disappoint, but it was on Time Warner Cable's sports channel this morning. Not aware of any online link for ya.
