  • Malcolm Armstead Basketball Camp

I've often wondered what Malcolm has been up to and saw this article yesterday. He's still a class act from the sounds of it. Very happy for the young man. He only played one year but what a year he had!

I really liked Armstead. Gave up a scholarship at Oregon to walk on at WSU! Same for Coelby, Frankamp, and now Allen. Doesn't get much more selfless than that!

Malcolm is one of the most important point guards we've ever had. Held down the fort while teaching Fred some things and letting Fred grow at a reasonable rate instead of just tossing him into the fire, and taught a bunch of youngsters what it means to say "the grind don't stop." Oh, and took us to a Final Four.
There are nights when I think that Sal Paradise was right.

I also love the fact he insisted Fred get out on the floor as the heir apparent, recognizing the long term success of the program, at least for the next three years rested on the shoulders of the young man from Rockford, and sacrificing his own playing time.

I still remember listening to a coaches show - I think it was before the season started - where he talked very highly how positively MA affected the the other guards' toughness and development. Especially FVV.

You literally couldn't pay him to play for Dana Altman. When Marshall comes knockin you say YES!

Malcolm was, IMHO, the most important player on the F4 team. It is unfortunate his tenure here lasted only one season on the court. If he would have been even a two-year transfer, I believe he would not get lost in the Cle/RB/FVV shuffle as easily and as often as he does. We certainly should never forget everything he did for us fans, and most importantly his teammates and coaches. You will not find a more fearless, talented human being who makes the rest of us feel like we're the superstar. Malcolm coming to Wichita is one of the most important decisions Shocker fans have been on the right side of...EVER. While we rightfully love the guys that spend their entire careers in Wichita, I can't overstate enough how big of an impact Malcolm had and continues to have on this program. This is not a post to bash or dismiss any of the amazing accomplishments of any other player or coach on staff. I just don't think we as a fan base truly appreciate how much the program needed a person like Malcolm, specifically during the time he chose us.

I was pretty sure the kid from the P5 conference, A. Craft, was going have his hands full matching up against Malcolm. It went just about the way that I thought it would.

I would put Malcolm as the 2nd best PG in WSU history behind FVV

Yep. Armstead was a huge matchup problem for Craft. Was quicker than most guys Craft has faced (as well as Craft himself) and our strategy was perfect. I started salivating when I saw Malcolm going under every screen and giving Craft anything outside 15 feet.

He was pretty good, but not as good as Marcus Armstrong.

Armstrong + Rob Barker. Best back court I saw until Fred VanFleet and Ronnie Baker.

You mean Van Fleet and the kid from Scott City, Iowa?

"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
