I'd probably pick Doug over Ron. Cle vs Doug would be tough for me. I think if Creighton had Cle instead of Doug (for four years) and based their system around him, his offensive output would have been similar. But that highlights the difficulty in comparing two players when one has gaudy stats and the other played within a system that prioritized parity.
This is an interesting statement, but I believe if we have Doug instead of Cle we win two national championships.

You obviously think he's one of the best of all time, which is fine. And it doesn't sound like anyone is going to convince you otherwise.

So, I want to just take a moment and appreciate how close we were to a national championship in the Final Four run. And who knows how close we were when we lost to UK in the second round. Those two years were really special.

Not so fast! Feb '12 in Omaha, he only scored 13 against season average of 22, also the famous Wookie Family Fued happened on the sidelines. We won 89-68, I recall it being a team D effort.

BTW, Cle had a monster game against UK. Not sure Doug could have changed the outcome if we had him for that game instead of Cle. Who knows what he would've given up on the other side of the ball.

More importantly, we can be sure this wouldn't have happened:

That picture isn't loading for me. So at first I assumed it was a posterizing dunk. But then I realized it could have just been a steal or a block or a defensive stance.

Cleanthony had 24 and 10 in the Final Four game against Louisville and 31 and 7 in the Round of 32 game against Kentucky.

It is no secret that Doug can struggle against teams that are elite athletes. In his final game against Baylor in the NCAA tourney, he had 15 points and 2 rebounds, with many of his points coming in garbage time.

"McDermott, who averaged 27 points this season, finished with 15 but had just three in the first half as Baylor built a 20-point lead."

Forgive me for being too direct, but it's laughable to think swapping those two players would have resulted in 2 titles. Louisville and Kentucky are about as athletic as it gets, and Doug couldn't score against an above average zone vs. Baylor.

I'm sure I messed something up. Here's a link: your assumption was right

                      • Sorry guys, I think Wild Heiny is right. Further, if the 90's Chicago Bulls had Doug instead of MJ, then they would've won 8 championships, because Doug's not a coward and wouldn't have retired for a year and a half.

                        • Guys, can we at all agree that if you added Doug to the 1991 Runnin' Rebels they would have been capable of going undefeated against a full NBA schedule?

Clearly any change to the makeup of the 1991 Runnin' Rebels would result in an inferior product.

Is Chicago where Doug ended up? Is he still on the team...? Wufan?
