No I disagree. Three time first team AA Doug McD was prolific as a scorer and better than several.

While I can understand why people on here do not like him, I think people are grossly underestimating his contribution on the offensive end of the court.
Sure he played for his old man, big deal, he dominated his competition and can remember when the Shocks threw the kitchen sink at him just to try and slow him down.
Is he greatest valley player off all-time, no, but to not even put him in the top 15 is absurd.
He was very good playing within Creighton's system. Under HCGM, he would have had a much different role and probably sagged off of the ball more to protect him.
He would have still been a very good player but he wouldn't have the free reign like he did under his Daddy. Gregg runs different lines in for some defenses and
DD would not have had a place in all situations. I would guess he would have still averaged 15 points or so but not in the mid 20's.

Any list without Fred undervalues his contribution not only to WSU but to the Valley as a whole.

You would list Fred as the best player ever?

Differing opinions regards players adds to the dynamics of fandom; for me McD 's one dimensional (offense only) game limits his inclusion on any list of all time greats, even the MVC.

You being overly objective to just about everything leads me to believe that you'd be a perfect presidential candidate.

Can't offend UNI fans here, gotta put McDermott up here, gotta drag WSU down here. Pathetic.

                Here's a fun question.

If you are building your own college basketball team and you could draft either Fred or Doug McD, which one would you choose?

                  Fred.

I'd probably pick Doug over Ron. Cle vs Doug would be tough for me. I think if Creighton had Cle instead of Doug (for four years) and based their system around him, his offensive output would have been similar. But that highlights the difficulty in comparing two players when one has gaudy stats and the other played within a system that prioritized parity.

Its slightly insulting that this is even a question.

Doug couldn't even get his team to win 2 games in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. He got shut down in his last game against Baylor and since he's so one-dimensional, once that happened, there was nothing else he could contribute to in the game.

He was the perfect base model for the Creighton program.

If I remember, Tekele frustrated the heck out of Dougie. I'll take Cle's all around game and athleticism over Dougie every day and twice on Sunday.

Imagine the points Doug would've put up had he played at Evansville

Believe me, it's not. Everyone would take Fred.

I already had my microphone in hand, ready to drop it when I asked that question.

Here's a question: what's better, a final four or an MVC tournament championship?

The system he played under is irrelevant. The more we talk about this the more I am convinced that he is one of the five best players ever in the Valley and is definitely a top 100 player off all time. When you talk about the greatest players of all time, defense, while a component is rarely the highest attribute of many on the list. You could probably count on one or two hands players that were better offensively than Dougie McD and that to me is enough to state that he is one of the greatest college players of all time. Guy was absolutely unstoppable on offense.
