        • Did Tekele make any inroads?

Some guy on FB tried to tell me that Tekele signed the same kind of deal with Detroit that Ron and Fred have signed, but it is FB, so probably more likely to be fiction than fact.

            • Tekele signed a non guaranteed deal, iirc. Basically a training camp invite. I think he has a good shot at making the roster.

              • I would love to see Tekele make a roster, but at 6'2" he is the size of an NBA point guard. I will be more surprised if he makes it than any of our other former players that are on summer league teams
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

That's true. And he struggled guarding taller and bulkier players throughout his entire collegiate career.

His defense has proven that he can play like a 6'4 guard. They will take the height deficiency if his suffocating defense comes along with it. The Pistons have said they have room in the rotation for a non-offense creating, defense first guard. They really like what he showed.

                    • There is already a bias against Ron as a 2 guard because of his size, and you guys are trying to tell me that front offices are going to ignore that on Cotton?

Yes, Tekele is a freak athlete that did ridiculous things in his college career and could regularly defend larger players. He's not going to be as effective against 6'8" players in the NBA not named Doug McDermott.

                        I'm not saying you're wrong.

                        • That's fair, but Tekele is going to have to overcome that bias to stick in the league.

If he's got a more consistent outside shot that will help.

The demand in the NBA is versatility. They want guys who play multiple positions and defend multiple positions.

With as good as guys shoot and drive in the NBA, defenses switch on every ball screen. That's why Steph found himself guarding Lebron for half the finals. Cleveland intentionally used point guards or shooting guards (whoever Steph was guarding) to set ball screens for the 6'8 small/power forward Lebron. That's not normal for college, but it's everywhere in the NBA. That's the size issue for these guys.

                              • Don't get me wrong, I don't think there's a chance it happens here, but where Tekele was this last season, he played a lot of point guard and was one of the team's leading scorers. It obviously wasn't the NBA, but it may suggest that he has at least improved in those areas.
