You would have one royally ticked off 1 seed in that case!

Although it would be fun to make KU the first 1 seed upset in the second round.

In that case, we'd be able to knock the 1 seed out of the bracket early and take over their cream puff route to the E8 or F4.

        • It's about time for Marshall to hook up with Jim Rome. Every year about this time since the final four run there's been a bro-nance. I've caught several of them and enjoy the banter. I think Rome is a closet Shocker-Marshall fan. Anyone heard when or if ones coming up?

He was on there about 2-3 weeks ago.

He was on a couple of weeks ago, but could be on again. No doubt Rome is a 'BIG' Gregg Marshall fan.

              • Thanks, missed that. I know the times I've caught it was usually before the big dance, which also meant the usual coaching rumors.

I've been saying for years that #6 or 11 is better than #7 or 10, for the exact same reasons. If you aren't going to be in the #1-3 range as WSU probably will be next year, I personally think #6 is the absolute sweet spot. Glad to see one of the number geeks catch on.

And at long last, there would finally be a #16 victory over a #1.

That's Mr. Numbers Geek to you pal! :)

Now, granted, obviously it depends on how good the respective 1, 2, or 3 seed you're playing is. This season, I'd rather see KU or Gonzaga than a lot of the teams that will get 2 or 3 seeds. West Virginia, Baylor, and Louisville come to mind.

                      • Sorry -- Pardon my informality, Mr. Geek.

Of the teams you just cited, I think Gonzaga would scare me most, although WVU and Baylor are capable of being very tough. But they're also eminently beatable, as we've seen far too many times this year, and neither is especially reliable down the stretch. As for the Chickenhawks, I don't think they want any part of WSU; and as for Louisville, I think the Shocks are SO much better now than when the two met in the Bahamas that it would be a very winnable game as well.

                        • "LISTEN: Francesa Talks Postseason Hoops With Wichita State, Iona, St. John’s Coaches" - NEW YORK (WFAN) — It’s March. Cue the madness.
                          March 7, 2017 5:20 PM

In separate interviews on his show Tuesday, WFAN's Mike Francesa talked with two head coaches who are headed to the NCAA tournament and another who hopes his team will defy the odds and make it there.

Gregg Marshall’s Wichita State Shockers will play in the Big Dance for the sixth consecutive year after beating Illinois State 71-51 Sunday to win the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.

Marshall said he has been somewhat surprised by this year’s squad, which is 30-4 and ranked 20th in the nation.

“I’ve got to tell you, Mike, when I lost those two NBA guards (Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet) … there was some apprehension. We were nervous,” he said.

“Our team has blossomed. … We gave that ball to (freshman point guard) Landry Shamet. He’s a guy that you’ve got to see play because he will eventually play in the association (NBA).”"

I've had a chance to watch Gonzaga a bit lately and they honestly don't scare me as much as I thought they would.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

Gonzaga's had their confidence shaken a little bit I think. Since losing to BYU they don't look near as dominant. It will be interesting how they look tonight against St. Mary's.
