Us and one of our soon to be conference brethren for a chance to go to the Elite 8. I agree, I would take that bracket in a heart beat.

      • On College Basketball Live, Seth Greenberg was asked something close to, "every year there's a mid-major that everyone keeps their eye on throughout the year and people expect to make a run in March. In the past it's been Wichita State, VCU, a while back it was St. Joe's. Who is that team this year?"

Greenberg said "well Wichita State isn't a mid-major. They're a high-major in a mid-major conference." Then he said no mid-major really fits his criteria but the closest team is FGCU.

Seth (Not Anti-Koch = Anti-WSU Davis) has always shown great respect to Wichita State and the work Marshall has done here. Glad to hear more praise from him.

          • Greenberg probably remembers his experience with WSU in the NIT and knows very well that the Shocks have stepped up to the NCAA every year since.

As for the USA Today bracket, I think it's silly and can't imagine WSU as a #11 seed, but apart from that my only complaint would be that I'd like to see them draw a different #6 -- how about trading Creighton for Iowa State?

            • If you think about it, an 11 seed is probably better than a 7-10 seed. Highest possible seed you play is a 3, plus there's greater (albeit somewhat minute) chance of a 3-14 upset than 2-15 or obviously 1-16. I'm just ready for this all to start.

              • We were an 11 seed last year and we had a playin game in Dayton

                • An 11 seed this year would not put us in Dayton. Those are for the last 4 At-Large bids.

Though, something weird seems to have happened the last couple of times.

Two of the four at large teams have to be 11 seeds because after we beat Vandy last year, we played a six seed Arizona.

The seed level for the play in may vary from year to year. The rule is the last four at larges which is typically an 11 or 12 seed.

The simple way to put it is, its the last 4 At-Large bids, and the last 4 Auto bids when it comes to the overall "S-Curve". So normally the at-larges fall in the 11/12 range, and the last 4 autos are always 16's.

There is ZERO chance that we are in a play in game this year because we are an auto bid that is not anywhere close to the last 4 autos.

                            • Yea, it is literally impossible for us to be in a play-in game this year.

Technically untrue. It is literally *possible* for Jerry Palm to blackmail the committee members into voting WSU as one of the worst 4 auto-bid teams, therefore, a play-in team as a 16 seed.
