  • As a PG, Shamet is probably better as a Fr than Baker was - perhaps as late as his Sr year. He shoots better than Baker. Baker defends better. Shamet can drive to the hoop better, and is much more athletic. Baker has a more solid build, off-the-charts BBIQ, and and a nearly insane work ethic.

Shamet "looks" more like what is expected of an NBA PG. The success (to this point and hopefully ongoing) of Baker and VanVleet will help Shamet get NBA looks. Who ever heard of two NBA PG's coming out of the same school in the same year? I expect we'll start seeing scouts on campus next year.

If McDuffie can be just a bit more consistent with his shooting and his handles, he's an NBA SG/SF combo.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I would pose that McDuff and Shamet are both better NBA prospects than Baker was in his soph year.
I think if Shaq shows consistency he could get his cup of coffee.

I think he'll have to double up on his aggression. He's got all the tools. Needs a little work on his J.

        • isn't shamet leading the mvc in asst/to ratio?

he has to be the leader for mvc freshman of the year. can't be too many of them in shocker history.

          • I agree about Shaq. Plenty of undersized centers have gotten time in the league

Shaq's game translates well to the NBA, but he's undersized and too slow up and down. He will be a pro, but not in the league. Now a 6-10 Shaq...

Wichita State's margin of victory in MVC play (22.7 PPG) is over seven points more than the 2013-14 team that entered NCAA Tourney unbeaten.

                  It's game day folks!

                  • Great article.

It included some cool information on CF that I hadn't seen.

Frankamp, in particular, has been a killer from deep. He’s hit 44.1 percent of his 118 attempts. On spot up shots, he’s averaging 1.47 points per possession, per Synergy Sports. That’s good enough to be in the 99th percentile nationally. In recent weeks, Frankamp has come to play more off the ball as well, giving him additional catch-and-shoot opportunities where he’s highly efficient. He’s averaging 1.43 points per attempt (95th percentile) on those shots this season, again per Synergy Sports.

                    • Actually, I am not convinced Connor's strength is as a spot-up catch-and-shoot player. He seems much more comfortable and effective to me shooting off the dribble.

I think that's the consensus of those who have followed him since high school, too.

                        • What's the difference between catch and shoot and spot up. Based on contest, I'm guessing spot up means off the dribble?

                          • My definition is that a spot-up shooter finds his spot with out the ball, catches a pass and shoots without dribbling. Shooting off the dribble is pretty self-explanatory. Your take at least one dribble before starting your shooting motion. The extra motion of dribbling and moving seems to give Conner better rhythm and feel on his shots.

What's a catch and shoot guy? Someone that doesn't find his spot but shoots it anyways?

Well if Conner is hitting from 25' like he has been, he can afford to take a dribble before. :)
