    "We’ll admit it.

We thought the Wichita State hype might be a bit premature. But then the Shockers reeled off four dominant home wins and forced anyone entertaining those thoughts to reconsider.

They now head to the Battle 4 Atlantis, far from the heart of Kansas, with a potential 2013 Final Four rematch with Louisville on the table. For their part, they’ll need to get by LSU this afternoon to make that happen.

Here’s all you need to know to watch that and the other Thanksgiving Eve action...."

    • LSU basketball team rolled over by Wichita State in Battle 4 Atlantis opener" - ADVOCATE (Baton Rouge)

      By Sheldon Mickles, Sports Reporter
      NOV 23, 2016 - 12:56 PM

"The first-ever game for the LSU men’s basketball team on foreign soil was anything but historic for the Tigers on Wednesday. After chalking up wins in its first three outings of the season, LSU ran into a giant buzzsaw in the opening game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in Nassau, The Bahamas.

LSU fell behind 11-0 just four-plus minutes into the game and never recovered as Wichita State, which just missed earning a spot in The Associated Press top 25 poll Monday, made a statement to the voters with a 82-47 victory...."

Wichita's Gregg Marshall was a great coach before Baker & Van Vleet & nothing has changed. 7 NCAA appearances at Winthrop.

I always like to ask the question: Would the great players in the Marshall era have been as great if not coached by him in particular. How much of the levels each player achieved is attributed to their own talent and how much is attributed to his coaching? Even with guys like FVV, Cle and Baker... Yes they were great, but it is becoming more and more evident that Marshall is able to produce greatness in just about everyone who is willing to buy into the system and run it. What is happening before our eyes this season (a season when we were all thinking there would be dropoff) is further evidence.

I agree. What always puzzles me is other schools saying, "Yeah, but think what he could do with OUR talent!" Maybe "the star" players WON'T buy into a defense/rebound priority scheme, wanting to make ESPN highlight reels to go higher in the draft. I think he is comfortable with ALL that being HC at WSU means. Having said that, when the "star" players realize that being well coached means better NBA stock, they'll start looking at WSU differently. I think we're starting to see that now. Honestly, as well as we're playing now, no one is mentioned as a "potential first round pick" because the team concept wins out. But, scouts see beyond ESPN.

O'Brien: "I've seen Kentucky play multiple times this year, seen Duke play...and what I saw today was as good as what I saw there. Top 15 team for sure."

Dakich: "No doubt. What we saw earlier this afternoon is as good as you're gonna find out there."

Well, it's official. Hell has frozen over. Next thing we'll see is that Jerry Palm has us as the #1 overall seed in his first bracketology report.

On the bad side I would also point out 11-19 (58%) from the FT line could cost you a close game as well. Like you said not a factor in a blowout.
