Many won't like the message but should appreciate that we are still worthy of national discussion.
Agree or disagree, it's fun that the program is on a list of 10 college basketball story-lines for the year.

Though I will disagree a little bit about the 4 year run thing. Which is why I think so many people have it wrong about the program. WSU went 27-6, had a kenPom of 11 and received a 5 seed the year before FVV and Baker played a game for WSU. Along with 2014, that 2012 squad had a legitimate shot at a F4 run. In fact, they were the hip pick that year. Funny that the squad between them got it done. WSU's 2013 F4 run had way less to do with a cinderella run, and way more to do with reaching the F4 at about a 25% clip with teams that had a shot at it. Which, nationally speaking, seems pretty reasonable. Overachieving a bit considering the seeding disadvantages, but still.

This is typical. We're still considered a mid-major from a national perspective and the 'experts' will never believe that a mid-major can sustain top 25 success. The comments are all the same, from time-to-time, we'll catch lightning in a bottle and make a nice little run but will never sustain due to either the coach leaving the program for greener pastures or a couple of lucky gets in recruiting end up graduating. I can understand where they are coming from because WSU has been the exception to the norm, but I still don't think many 'experts' understand what GM is building here.

I'm hoping after early struggles due to big changes are program is facing this year, we'll end up making noise at season's end to shut everyone the eff up.

        • It's as if some members of the national sports media were in a coma from say 2010-2012. Just... gone from their memories.

          • The NIT Championship team wasn't a bad team either.

Sure, we may not go undefeated this year but damn, Marshall has kinda proven what happens to programs when he's around.
            Deuces Valley.
            ... No really, deuces.

"sometimes the ball doesn’t go in the basket. Wichita State bludgeoned South Carolina State Friday night, but Shocker guards Landry Shamet, Conner Frankamp and Daishon Smith weren’t in on the fun. The trio combined to shoot 2-for-11, including “0-fers” from Frankamp and Smith. Gregg Marshall put a positive spin on it following the opening win: “Neither [Frankamp] nor Daishon were able to get a basket to go down, but I thought they were both effective in their own way.”

It was a different story against Long Beach State, as Marshall’s backcourt burst into the scoring column in a 92-55 win. Shamet (12 points) and Frankamp (15 points) carried Wichita State in the first half with Shaq Morris glued to the bench in foul trouble...."

"...Wichita State’s two easy wins over teams picked win their respective conferences (South Carolina State and Long Beach State) were impressive enough on their own merit, but head coach Gregg Marshall gave minutes to everyone on the roster, and newcomers Landry Shamet, Darral Willis, Austin Reaves, and Daishon Smith all stood out.

Shamet was with the team last year, but redshirted after an injury derailed what would have been his freshman season. The 6’4 guard scored 19 points in the two Shocker wins. The junior transfer Willis scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Reaves flashed the ability to shoot from long range and became the first Shocker freshman in 20 years to record three steals in his debut. Smith gave a glimpse of his point guard skills by handing out seven assists in just 16 minutes of play...."

There are key resume builders on the Valley’s schedule this week. Monday night Southern Illinois (0-1) plays at Arkansas, Indiana State (0-1) travels to Mid-American Conference favorite Ball State on Tuesday, Northern Iowa (1-0) opens the Puerto Rico Tip-Off against Arizona State on Thursday, and Loyola (2-0) tangles with St. Joseph’s in the Paradise Jam on Friday..."
I'm not sure whose resume these games are going to build. Does anybody see any Valley teams winning any of these games? Maybe UNI over ASU, but I don't see any other MVC victors in that lineup.

He probably should have said, "potential resume builders..."

                              Tulsa Golden Hurricane (0-1) at Wichita State Shockers (2-0), 7 p.m. (ESPN3)
"Two of last year’s First Four renew their rivalry. Last season, the Golden Hurricane picked up their first victory over the Shockers since this series resumed in the 2010-11 season. That 77-67 triumph played a slight role in getting Tulsa into the field. Don’t expect a repeat this season, as Gregg Marshall’s team has looked like a buzzsaw in its first two outings, while Frank Haith’s lost to Jacksonville State at home."
