  • Conferences like the MEAC, and the teams that populate them, are really just an indication that there are far too many participants in NCAA D1 MBB. There's almost no way to justify their inclusion, from a competitive standpoint.

Sort of like the MVC if they 'expand' and add a couple more dogs like LOL Loyola.

No, I'm talking about leagues that make the MVC look like the B10 comparatively.

I'm sure in the 90s people said the same thing about Wichita State.

              Ugh.

Not sure why the context of my comment is so difficult.

There are entire conferences in D1 that feature gyms akin to a large high school's, with budgets and fan support similar to D2 and even possibly NAIA, that have never sniffed relevancy in anything sports related.

That has nothing to do with a mightily struggling WSU-type school, or a currently struggling MSU-type school.

"Fred VanVleet and Ron Baker are not walking through that door, but that doesn’t mean that the Wichita State Shockers fail in having other options to score the basketball. The Shockers are 4-0 so far this season and have averaged 93.0 points through their first four games.

“We knew we had guys that could score and they’ve proven that,” Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall said Monday on the College Hoops Today Podcast. “We’ve scored pretty well in all four of games and we had 116 points in our last game. We’ve got 10 different guys that could lead us in scoring on a given night.”

Next up for the Shockers is a trip to the Bahamas where they will open the Battle 4 Atlantis on Wednesday against the LSU Tigers. That game is scheduled for a noon Eastern tip and will be aired by ESPN2. The Tigers are 3-0 to start the 2016-17 season.

Without VanVleet and Baker in tow, Marshall knows his team is about to find out an awful lot about itself over the next few days.

“These guys haven’t done it as a group yet,” he added. “That’s the challenge now.”

Has the link for the podcast as well, starting at about the 5:45 mark.

                            • Saw this today regarding the recent AP Top 25 on BleacherReport:
"No Shocker is averaging more than 22.0 minutes or 11.5 points per game. This isn't one or two guys destroying teams. It's a swarm of locusts, devouring crop after crop with no resistance."

Love that "swarm of locusts" description!

Great preview. Excited for the game tomorrow and hopeful we'll prevail with the key marquee matchup you wrote about.
