I know we like to puff our chests out and say "we are not a mid-major" and most agree and have seen we can beat the blue bloods every year, but there are obvious benefits to coaching in a power five conference. One of which is the ability to have a very mediocre year and still make the tournament as an 8 seed (ie. Texas Tech). If WSU moves to the A-10 then I think we become a possible landing spot for a coach like Underwood.
Stephen F. Austin is a very good team but, and obviously can compete with any Valley team including WSU on the basketball court, do you even know who is in the Southland Conference?

    Central Arkansas
    Abilene Christian
    Incarnate Word
    Sam Houston State
    UTCC

UNI and Bradley both pay their coaches 800K and ISUR plays at least 400K (as much as SFA).
The MVC plays a conference challenge with the MWC. As a conference, we are much closer to the MWC, AAC, Big West, and a few others than we are to this conference. The Valley has it's warts and weak sisters, but to compare the entire conference is a joke.

    • The only way Underwood is at WSU next year is if a WSU assistant gets hired away. A WSU assistant position is better than any position at SFA.

            • I was hoping to watch goatlube fail, but I guess this shows that they aren't quite that dumb in Stillwater.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

Absolutely right. There's no way Underwood would be interested in WSU. After all, the MVC is a mid-major conference just like the Southland. Except, the MVC has an RPI that is at least twice as good as the Southland, every season. Even the last few seasons without the cretins, still better than twice as good. And what about that top 25 that WSU seems to be in all the time; no way Underwood would care about coaching a team like that. And how about a team that was a number 1 seed in the NCAA tournament a few years ago, and a 9 seed before that, and a 5 seed before that; Underwood would have to be crazy to want to coach a team like that. Maybe coaching in an 10,500 seat arena that is sold-out for every game, instead of an arena that seats 7,200 and averages 3,300 fans (with one game that had a whopping 635 fans in attendance), even after all those wins he's had the last three seasons; NOPE! What about inheriting a budget that is about 7 times larger; NO WAY! How 'bout coaching a program that would pay him four too five times more than he is making right now, even after his new and improved contract, and that's not even including all the perks, like all those recruiting flights on those private jets that cost about $10,000.00 an hour to operate. UNDERWOOD WOULD HAVE TO BE CRAAZZZYYYY TO WANT TO GET IN ON THAT.

Yep, you're right. Thanks to that pesky mid-major MVC thing, Underwood is way to good for WSU and it's fans whom "puff our chests out and say, we are not a mid-major". He should definitely hold out for a P5 job. KSU perhaps? GO LON KRUGER!

Dude, have you read what I wrote....? Go back and re-read it. People get oddly butt hurt here when someone posts something other than sunshine pumping. Its sad. All I'm saying is the brutal truth is coaches aren't lining up to coach in the Valley. I don't care how good our program is. And it is good. But we dominated the Valley and got a play-in game. Scheduling is impossible. But i guess if sunshine pumping is the only thing allowed here, then let me try again, "WSU is the best program ever. Coach Wooden is crawling out of his grave now to become an assistant coach here."

Anyways, Coach Underwood just took a power 5 job without hesitation soooo. WSU is phenomenal program but the valley is a major drag on us. we need to leave.

He doesn't have to hold out for a P5 job. He just accepted an offer from a middling P5 team within seconds of being offered. But I'm impressed with that tantrum. My two year old would be proud. If you are cool with barely making the tournament after the season we just had, then that's fine. We are in a mid major conference and judged that way by the committee. It's the cold hard truth my man. Maybe you should direct your angst towards Bardo and getting us in a better confrernce
