Shriveled up or not used at what they are doing best?

Brown is a 30% shooter from 3 and has taken (IMO) way more 3s all season than he should. I believe over 50% of his total shots. 0-4 from 3...too many again?

Wessel didn't score. Well, Wessel didn't scored in the other 2 UNI games either, but he did have 7 rebounds in 25 minutes. He's not someone I'm looking at for scoring but he also put up 0-4 from 3 as a 27.5% 3 shooter for the season. Too many?

McDuffie was 0-5 from 3, but 2-2 inside the arc. He has been struggling mightily from the 3 for the previous 13 games going 5-25 and 1-7 the previous 6, yet 12-23 inside the arc. This game he goes 2-2 from 2, but shoots 5 3s. Too many?

Frankamp, the player we want shooting 3s goes 1-2 from 3 while the ones we shouldn't have taking a bunch goes 0-13. I find it somewhat hard to put blame on his doorstep.

All those guys could have been smarter. They didn't have to settle for 3's. All of them could have been more aggressive and try to take their guys off the dribble. They all have performed in the past, they just didn't do it against UNI. Who knows what they were told by Fred, Ron, Coach, etc., hopefully they can learn a few things from this game.

2-24...that alone makes it pretty difficult to put the loss on any one or two people. That's not SOMEONE shooting poorly. That's EVERYONE shooting poorly.

2-24 is from 3. Ron, and Grady shot well from mid range. Fred and Conner didn't shoot very much because they didn't allow them to the rim. We didn't get to the rim much. UNI played good D. We needed to shoot better from the line as a team.

Yes, I meant from 3. Should've included that in my comment. That was a problem for everyone that shot from out there minus Conner. But 2 point shooting wasn't great for anyone outside the bigs and Duff either. Anton shot well, Shaq shot well, MM shot well inside the arc. Ron shot 38%, which isn't terrible, but not great either. Free throw shooting wasn't bad at 76.9% overall, although the misses were at inopportune times. We spent too much time at the 3-point line for as poorly as we were shooting it.

Marshall is arrogant and he is stubborn. That doesn't make him a bad coach. A coach at his level better be arrogant and stubborn. The problem is that sometimes those traits are not constructive.

There's the theory that the coach's attributes become the player's attributes. I contend that FVV took on those traits this year. Hadn't seen those traits in him before, but this year he was calling his own number more than ever before. When he was covered when driving he almost never passed out of there, which was one of his greatest assets in the past.

In another thread someone mentioned that Frankamp should have gotten the shot when the shot clock was winding down. Does anybody here think that FVV was going to pass the ball to CF in that situation? Did it ever happen? The one time Frankamp had the ball in his hands at the end of a game was on an out of bounds play after a time out.

With all the shooters there are on this team, all of them going cold on the same night is a remote possibility. All of them having some other issue on the same night is more likely.

This team does not have good chemistry.

That last line is disturbing to me...I'm not disputing it....I'm just wondering what your basis is for believing it.

I think he answered that in his post where he asked about everyone having an off shooting night. It has happened a few times now. The odds that every good shooter on the Shox would have a bad night at the same time are very low. Therefore, for them to have as many games where everyone is off has to be something else. Team chemistry is the most likely reason for everyone to be off.

Define Team Chemistry. That's a pretty abstract term. After a loss, everyone has an opinion but we don't get any closer to real answers.

Hmmm...never thought of it that way...not sure if I totally agree, but hey, that's one purpose of a message board....I think I've seen teams TOTALLY connected that all had rough nights at the same time.

Just to throw this out there, but I think the team chemistry thing may be more of a matter of trust. Trust in the fact that the guy the seniors are passing to is going to be in the right spot, at the right time, and have a reasonable expectation of making the shot once a pass is delivered. We have touched on this fact throughout the season. There is a wide gulf between our seniors and our underclassmen IMO, in regards to the trust that the underclassmen will get it done. They are underclassmen afterall. Not discounting them at all. We have lots of talent, just not yet the maturity that they are likely to develop.

This is an area where having no Juniors on the roster, JRS and ZB2 excepted, to step up and really give the seniors someone they can trust, is a real problem. SM has been great this year and I would make him an exception for the underclassmen, but really he is the only one. ZB has shown flashes, but at least on the offensive end, has also disappeared at times, his dunkathon vs ISUr notwithstanding. And I am just using ZB as an example, not an attack on him at all. I would have hoped that the underclassmen would have made the move up by now, but to me at least, it seems like they are regressing somewhat. Maybe the grind is getting to them, I don't know.

I still have very high hopes for this team. They have the talent and leadership, but FVV and RB need some help from everyone else. They are the best guard combo this school may have ever seen, but even they can't do it by themselves. Trust is earned, time for the rest of the team to step it up and allow Fred and Ron to trust them. Go Shocks!
