  • After game thoughts...

RefChick and I arrived safely back home after the 3 hour drive, after witnessing a 2 hour beat down.

ISU is not a very good team, but just giving up a couple of minutes into the 2nd half is inexcusable.
They have zero inside talent and their basic offense consists of Brown and Scott looking to get a open glimpse and fire away.
They need to do some serious low post recruiting.

Van Scyoc is a thug and a bit surprised Shaq didn't lay him out after a couple of his cheap shots.

Yes, Hulman is getting old and outdated, but they have taken decent care of it. There are a lot worse places, think Loyola.

WSU is just dialed in right now and hitting on all cylinders. Can not believe this same team lost to UNI.

Been coming here for 30 of last 32 years.
There were times (90's) when there were maybe 10-15 WSU fans here. Last night there had to be 50+. Most didn't get into the locker room after the game.

Marshall was pure class after the game in the locker room.
Had a young fan step forward and lead the team in post game celebration chant. It was a nice moment and typical of running a class program.

Almost all ISU fans last night were very cordial and gracious. It was nice change vs some past experiences.

The drive home seemed shorter than usual. :-)

    That is all.

Above all, make the right call.

Respectfully disagree. When LSU played U of H in January (with Ben Simmons) at Hoffheinz, there were about 7K people there, which is 4K below the limit. I think they haven't had a sellout since Guy V. Lewis retired (semi-kidding). They are drawing about 5-6K per game, IIRC, so the seats are far from full, but someone is bankrolling the weight room, locker room and practice facility upgrades. U of H has at least one 4/5 star player (Danrad Knowles, IIRC) and are very competitive recruiting in the Houston area.

The Trees could, with the right facility upgrades, compete favorably for basketballers in the Indy area, as they are less than a two hour drive from downtown Indy.

Kinda' hard to engage people when you're playing in an antiquated barn.
That was the promotion for the WSU game there. This was a "fan out".

After team completed celebration chant in the locker room, Zach Bush blurted out out "Ok you people need to get out so we can get naked and shower."
Some horny old woman replied "Are you sure we can't stay?"

She was old enough to have been his Grandmother.

          That is all.

Shockref, could you explain the Hal Lusk call at the 1:13 mark of the 1st half?

I don't recall seeing it called in that situation. McDuffie ran the baseline, where he ran off the court voluntarily, at this point Lusk extended his right arm with a fist and held it, MM circled around a set of screens and received a pass from Baker in stride for a pull up three. At that point Lusk called the play dead. What is the rule and if correct, isn't it something that could be called more frequently?

                Thanks

RDR, you absolutely must call into tonight's show, as Ricardo del Rio of course, and ask coach "how much he needs to come along to get some minutes."

I fondly recall hearing your last call in, very contrite.

Curious about this one as well. The annoucers said it was a illegal screen on Evan, but im pretty sure they were wrong. When you look at the play by play on the box score, all it says it was a turnover on McDuffie.

                    • Must have been the fact that he went out of bounds and was the first person to touch the ball. Kinda like the football rule. Not seen or called as much in basketball though.

At least I think that's it.

                        • ShockTown,
Any player that VOLUNTARILY leaves the court surface and is then the 1st to touch the ball commits a violation.
The official will signal the violation with a closed fist extended to his side, the same as a free throw violation.

If the player is not the first to touch the ball, the official will drop his fist and play continues.

The purpose is to penalize players who move along the baseline and go out of bounds to avoid a defensive player who has established a legal guarding position.

                          It is a good rule.

                          That is all.

Did you see this call? Was it correct? I don't know if I've ever seen it called before, and I missed the under-the-basket action that led to this call.
